Benchmade Griptilian 550-1 Review (G10 Scales and CPM-20CV!)

Cool review of a high quality Benchmade! I purchased this exact same knife over a month ago. Really like it a lot. The sheep's foot blade design and spider hole make it a unique griptilian.

Found this channel by coincidence because I just ordered this knife and was looking for additional videos. Great channel you have here. I love the grey/Blue combination too, that's why I love Sebenza, Kizers, so mostly titanium or grey with blue.. Mostly have Titanium Fooldersbecause of that. Had to finally try a benchmade though. After seeing this video I am even more sure I made the right choice with this one.

I sanded the black painted clip on mine and buffed/polished it until it was shiny. Turned out great!

Likewise I found your channel by accident, but really like your review as I was considering getting a griptilian at some point. I just bought my first benchmate last week. I have been a flipper guy for a long time now looking at the $300 and up range. That probably won't change based on this review, I do plan on adding a few of these products as well. I have a pm2 and a 550-1 with flytanium scales,and I love them both. My favorite knives besides my bradley mayhem.

This and a pm2 are very similar. The only problem I have with my 550-1 is that the axis lock gets jammed sometimes and it makes it harder to open, but it seems to be getting better and people say that it breaks in after a while so hopefully I does, besides that I luv the knife!

Actually, the first time I got one, I opened it and the lock jammed. I couldn't get it unstuck for the life of me and sent it back. I took a gamble and got the one in the video which was perfect.

I wouldn’t buy the old style grip, the closed back construction made it look sorta clunky… but I did get the new one !!! Same blade as yours!!! I’m looking at the freak next!!! Lo😢the colors and gmascas scales!!! Can’t go wrong with that M4 steal either!!!

@@Deoffred Personal preference really, but I'd take any 940 over any griptilian. The grip takes up a lot of pocket and feels "fat" ha. Also I don't think there's anything I'd do with my 940 that my griptilian would do better. The slimness, and bladeshape are just really really nice to me. You also get a lot of blade for the size. I like the standard aluminum 940, over the g10 version simply because the black just doesn't appeal to me. The carbon fiber looks really nice on the s90v version but I don't really think it's worth over 250. If you've got the funds, go for it. Also I had a grip before this one, sold it, sold this one, and got a custom one after this and sold it too. My 940 will never leave my side, but the griptilians I always get bored of. Not a bad knife at all though.

They do have a parkerized deep carry clip. They sent me one for my 940-2. Just ask for it.

My blade is not moving downward well when releasing the axis lock button. Will it break in, or do i have a problem?

With a benchmade id say it should break in within the month. Spyderco? Adjust the pivot screws because there's no breaking in ha

They're about the same as far as how much I liked them, I prefer the Manix 2 if I had to choose.

Tom Scibelli After using them more, I like the manix 2 better. The lock was far smoother on the benchmade, but I liked the Manix as a user better overall.

Just a quick question. I know you are a big para military fan. I recently picked one up but the lock has a bit of stick to it. Not too bad but enough to annoy me. Is this normal or is your lock smooth?

It's pretty normal, my normal para 2 that's really smooth has lock stick. It seems to come and go but it definitely sticks if you flick it out harder. If I deploy it by holding the lock down, and swinging the blde out and then releasing the compression lock to engage the blade it never seems to stick. I've found the problem disappears by lubing up the pivot with a couple of drops of benchmade blue lube.

I don't know if I'd be so sure on the 940 if I didn't love the design so much. Personally, I just feel like it's perfect looking, and even the colors are exactly what I would've chosen had I designed the knife. The tip is really strong though despite being a "smaller knife" so it's still plenty durable for hard use. It's lighter, slimmer, so it's easier to carry. I think overall it's smoother, and the blade ratio is better. Small things, but for me it's the design that I just like more. Both are great knives. I've had a few griptilians and all of them had quality issues, and my 940 hasn't. Even the one in the video, I had to loctite the pivot screw down as it kept coming undone. I didn't mention that in the review though because it wasn't an issue at the time. I ended up selling this one and keeping the 940 too if that tells you anything ha.

the axis or glock are second strongest lock ! the triad lock being the strongest ! the G10 scales and liners make this knife ! I didn't like reptilians because of greedy price for a knife with a crappy handle ! untill they fix the crap handle but they are still greedy so I got the clone ! $34.00 it is a very good knife for a really good price ! I would buy it from benchmade if they put a good price say $ 70.00 and if it were not for their crappy goat blowing quality control ! got the bugout clone to ( I collect clones of stupid high price so called American knife co. knives ) $30.00 it has the same crappy rubber handle !
