The mini barrage is my ultimate EDC knife. Tough as hell, sharp and comfortable in my somewhat large hand. Looked around at different knife brands and models of other Benchmade's but as you pointed out, that profile makes it such a good looking knife. I always get comments if I let someone borrow it. Even though it's a mini it's a complete knife in every way.

As always Aaron, there are those of us that much prefer the split arrow clip to all other clips that Benchmade provides. (It's probably my favorite clip, full stop). There's no reason to discontinue the clip just because you prefer deep ride clips to higher ride clips.
@TheStr8nubbn8 жыл бұрын
Offed Pez 100% agree. I actually switch all my clips to the split arrow. Not sure why anyone would want a personal preference item that the can replaced FOR FREE completely discontinued. Just goes to show how little other people's opinions matter. That's not a dig on Aaron, just a basic human nature observance.

Mini grip all day. Love the deep carry clip but IMO it's easier, safer, and way more fun to close one handed.

A great review. I have the older models of both knives. I prefer not to have a clip on a pocket knife. If a folder is carried, it is in the pocket or in a windbreaker of in a bidrectional sheath on a belt. I just don't wear blue jeans any more. I wear slacks/windbreakers or running shorts. I had noticed the difference in the blade design. It can be very important. I explain. I bought a Benchmade Mini Grip a few months ago. Guy had broken off the tip. Misused the knife. I restored the knife to a more rounded Barrage type tip.

For me the mini Griptilian didn't stand a chance because the mini Barrage was mis priced at $88.99, when the sale price was suppose to be $121.59 down from the regular price of $127.59. The clerk told me its not the price I told him that one sure a hell is!!!! $96.10 out the door how can you go wrong with a Benchmade knife for that price! and I did hold the Griptilian and liked the feel of the Barrage in my hand better.

Great comparison! Is the G10 handle any thinner than the nylon one? One of the reasons I stopped carrying my (full size plastic) Griptilian is because its handle was so thick in pocket.
@gideonstactical8 жыл бұрын
Jae Stelzer not sure on the fill size check bladehq they give great specs
@jaes49268 жыл бұрын
Ah! I didn't realize BHQ gives handle thickness specs... Looks like the G10 versions are the same thicknesses as the plastic ones, on both sizes of both models.
@boydboys90846 жыл бұрын
Jae Stelzer they offer different handles for the grips from my own observation(holding one with each handle) some of them are a bit thinner and being that you can now fully customize them on Benchmade’s website to your preferences and designs they are better looking and you can choose the steel in your blade, they also come with a certificate of authentication which my one from amazon and BladeHQ definitely did not come with.

Honestly, the biggest determining factor will probably be whether or not you prefer an assisted opening blade, or a manual one. Great video. I'm on the line with the Manix 2 with G10 handles or the new Mini Griptilian you showed here. About a fifty dollar difference and to me both high-end knives for a pocket knife. I like knives with some heft too. Which do you think is better for a box and string cutter, light kitchen prep and opening packages. I'm thinking Manix for this Christmas and Mini Grip next Christmas since that's when the family gives me some extra money. The funny part is I just watched your Manix video about an hour ago and then you popped this one out, the irony. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Waste of a good tool knife. Just my opinion, I don't buy things just to store it away unless it's a sucky piece that I may get rid of at some point. Matrix is a little on the wide side, not something I would want to carry around EDC. Benchmade it the way to go, Spyderco Delica is great too. I have two different types of Delicas and 4 mini Benchmades. None of which cost me $150 as I try to stay around the $100 mark. For $150, my money is on the ZT Sinkevich!!

I cannot for the life of me understand why Benchmade continues making poorly painted pocket clips for knives in this price range. This is the part of the knife that is seen the most often and makes it look cheap once the paint starts wearing off & chipping - which usually occurs after about twenty or thirty seconds of simply looking at them. This is a very high volume part that fits dozens of models of knives and likely only costs pennies to produce. So for a mere few pennies more, why the heck don't they put a durable coating on it?!? In the meantime: MXGGear.com is where I've found some quality clips for my Grips (& Presidio, Mini-Barrage & 940's) Aaron - if you ever get your hands on a Benchmade rep, kindly give him an earful from me - & likely thousands of other perplexed Benchmade owners.

Historically, I have Never been a Fan of any belt clip and or clip intended for securing/mounting a tool or knife for example. If one is tumbling down a long flight of stairs or small./large hill (head over heels) I prefer for my equipment to be secured. 'The belt clip portrayed here could be potentially removed from any moderate ocean rip tide/under tow.

Meh….I can’t agree with much of your review. I greatly prefer the blade shape on the mini-grip. It’s far easier to get the blade under a cable tie than that pig nose Barrage. And what is the obsession on deep carry pocket clips?!? Are you that worried someone will see it? The penis clip is great! Much easier to withdraw the knife, it’s wayyy stronger and much more durable. But if you obsess about the shape, maybe it’s your filthy mind. Still if people can’t get past it, the standard Emerson style clip is just as strong and durable.
