I have been carrying one (partially serrated) for a week now. I’ve always been a big Griptillian fan, even though I’ve generally gravitated to BMs more expensive models. I would almost call this a “Lightweight Freek” based on dimensions and build toughness. I know it’s not a Freek, but the oversized washers, thicker stop pin and thicker blade kinda move it away from the Griptillian. I’m in law enforcement and can tell you that when you’re already wearing a bunch of tools on your kit, it’s nice to have a knife with this level of build at this weight. I tried the Bugout, which is a fantastic knife, but just doesn’t fill my hand. Same goes with my Spydercos. They are fantastic knives, but don’t have the hand fill of the Redoubt. I think this knife will surely start a new era of light weight heavy users. I’m betting a mini will come by next year. And of course the aftermarket will have a field day with that green overlay. It would be neat to see a Topographic overlay in black. If I had to pick a potential issue it’s that I’m seeing less room for wear on more current axis locks. The spot where the axis bar rests when the blade is open, has less additional travel allowance for wear than on other BMs that I’ve had in the past. I also have both the Grivory and Aluminum Bailout which seem to have this smaller amount of wear space. I’m wondering if BM changed their tolerances or lock dimensions which allowed them to have more engagement with slower wear? If you remember the older Adamas would disengage and close if you put weight against the spine. So maybe they fixed that with more engagement. On mine I’ve also noticed the lock ramp on the blade tang has a light brown/gold hue like it’s been carburized or heat treated differently than the rest of the blade. Even the rounded area where the axis bar rides against the blade as it’s opening is the normal silver of the steel. But the lock ramp itself is a brownish hue. At least on mine. It makes me wonder if they hardened the ramp to slow the wear down and then allowed more engagement of the axis bar to prevent disengagement? Thoughts?

So, unfortunately back in January my griptilian had slipped out of my pocket while at work. I noticed less than 15 minutes later and went back to where I know it fell out, but it wasn't there. Afterwards I started looking at a replacement knife and saw the Redoubt on the new 2022 listings. I've patiently waited for it to release, and it will be delivered to me tomorrow. Really looking forward to using it! Side note: one of the things I was most worried about was getting a replacement with a "sticky" action. I don't ever use the thumb studs. I only use the AXIS lock to both open and close the knife, which was possible with the griptilian. Seeing that this is basically the Griptilian 2.0 (and seeing others handle it), I have no worries that this will be an excellent replacement!

Crap! I hadn’t heard that! Is that gonna be a thing now, where manufacturers go after the after-market scale makers? What about the guys that make aftermarket pocket clips like MXG, Lynch? … or is this just Benchmade needing a little drama?! 🙄

I personally think that H&k hogue and SOG make pretty good axis/crossbar locks I think that the price point on this particular knife is a little high I have for instance a Sig k320 with the Tanto stonewashed blade that was the knife center exclusive I picked it up for about a hundred bucks it's s30v a polymer handle four-way positionable deep carry pocket clip that has a little recess so it does not tear up your pants it's comfortable in any grip you could possibly imagine and I've yet to dull the blade and I've used it quite a bit My only regret is I bought it in a tanto and not the drop point if I find a good price on the drop point I'm going to be picking one up soon too and now they make it in aluminum with an insert in the handle but they're a bit pricey I think right now somewhere around $180 I think this particular knife is a little high I think it should be around the 100 to $120 range for D2 steel and plastic handles Yes I know it's kind of a big handle but it is still plastic I also have a griptilian that I find fills my hand very well I think it is s30v blade steel black coated orange handle it's very smooth it's probably one of the better Axis locks that I have next to my older adamas which is very slick and beefy and that was a high price knife too I think mine is D2 as well and it was somewhere around $200 or just under 195 I think I bought it for a while back a few years ago actually I may pick this up if it goes on sale or I can find one at a better price but I'm no rush to get one because of the price but it does look like it's a pretty good knife definitely a pocket shredder I have nothing against D2 tool steel I have several mods with it but I just think that the price point of that steel has gone up over the years just to keep up with the market that seems to be a trend with knives that they're using a more economical steel but charging a higher price same thing would handle material take for instance the Cold Steel razor tech with 4116 steel and they were asking around a $140 range I think now they've dropped the price because people were complaining quite a bit about it but I think even a smallest one is still somewhere around $100 and I think that's still a little high for that steel although I do have a cold steel pocket bushman that's older and I've yet to dull that blade and I've used it quite a bit so their heat treat is spot on with it but I guess time will tell I may pick one up someday

The Hogue able lock is a bit better than the Axis lock. My gripe with Hogue is there's almost no aftermarket support. Which leads into BM going after Rogue Bladeworks, which is really bad for us as consumers. Having customization options is good, especially when they release knives like this one with terrible plastic handles.

Hot take if the day: the redoubt is a worse/newer version of the grizzly ridge. Both have overly grippy handles, both are the same exact size, grizzly ridge has s30v and g10 redoubt is cpmd2 and plastic. Same price

I’m all for aftermarket scales and accessories because the original manufacture wants to much for their factory products. But “buyer beware” because you get what you pay for. I needed omega springs for a Bugout and Benchmade wouldn’t send them to me so I went with an aftermarket brand and they seem to work great so far. As far as the Redoubt goes, not a huge fan. Looks like a pocket shredder. Still waiting on the “ Immunity”.

I agree benchmade makes a nice knife, but I cannot abide greedy companies that don't understand where their money comes from, that being flag waving Americans. I still think back to the gun cutting incident and it still makes me dislike them and hearing about them bullying small business people that are doing them no harm just reinforces my dislike. I don't have any of their knives and I don't plan on getting any. I know most people don't care about this, but maybe that's why the US is swirling down the toilet. I'll support Hogue knives. I'm a nonpedantic language nerd so I'll drop some cool info about the knife name for those curious. If the Redoubt is named after the military building it does have an official pronunciation. (It was a building in Age of Empires!) What's interesting though is that the official pronunciation is not specific so it can be said many ways and be correct. Neither "red-out" or "reed-out" are correct. The prefix vowel uses the schwa sound 'rə'. The English Schwa doesn't have a consistent pronunciation, it varies by word, accent, and context. In prefixes it is used as an unstressed "sound". It isn't even supposed to be heard much at all! It's not uncommon to prnounce that part of a word differently every time you say it because it doesn't matter. Like the first vowel sound in ridiculous and redemption. Both words could be pronounced with a short u, short i, long e, or short e sound and sound fine. The important part of this word is doubt. How you say the first part is mostly irrelevant as long as it's unstressed. So I would consider it more like "r'doubt".
