So how did you inform all of the delivery drivers like FedEx, UP, USPS, etc on how to use ur new box, and to tell them all to use it?

@@SuperSlimshady1 There is a sign that I put on my screen door, that tells how to do it. USPS is the only delivery carrier that refuses to look at the sign. It is pretty simple to use it. Just open the lid, put package in it, and close the lid. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to use it.

Great concept! But Michel does have a point. Maybe make the bench out of other material than plastic (so hard to get into) or of heavy material or maybe it can be anchored down on the porch from the inside (so it will not get stolen).
@benchsentry8325 жыл бұрын
Hi Kitty, glad you like the idea. Micheal did offer some well-reasoned comments and we replied with how we're addressing those objections. Check it out. Like you suggested, we are including pre-drilled holes into BenchSentry's design so you can anchor it for added security. We've been running our pilot program for two years with no attempts to steal a BenchSentry but we still want that option to be available just in case. Thanks for taking the time to comment and please don't hesitate to offer more feedback.

I think I could get into that plastic box with a large pry bar or sledge hammer, and I'm a senior woman with no upper body strength to speak of. For me it needs two changes in design. First, it needs to be heavy gauge metal (that won't rust), and it needs to have a pry-proof edge (a metal flange along the entire opening to prevent prying).

Question. Ok , its a great idea.. what if you get a brazen thief that just takes the whole benchSentry box? Is it secured to the concrete? Bolted down in some way? With the right tools I am sure I could open the box with little effort.
@joshuacornell66675 жыл бұрын
The electronics are worth more than the material it is primarily made of, no wonder why it is so costly, but worth the cost compared to what gets stolen. I read your responses to others and I am happy to find out you provide securing holes in the base for the owner to secure it to the deck be it composite/wood, concrete, or other instead of offering a single suits all fastener (non existent), You should consider offering option materials such as an aluminum/steel frame and grid panel (think sheet with holes for the plastic to better grasp onto) that is also then coated in plastic for further added security. Seeing as plastic will degrade from sunlight alone making it eventually brittle enough to break with a rubber mallet and I speak from leaving buckets out in the elements for a year and they break apart at the slightest attempt to grab or lift. I am sure you also have in mind to offer larger versions as you make improvements to the security features. As I said despite the price, it would beat getting more expensive things (think jewelry and pricier electronics) from being stolen without this type of solution. But yeah do keep offering the buyer this with holes and without any fasteners, as not everyone has a wood or composite deck or porch. I came up with idea years ago when I first though of how peoples packages can get easily stolen but I am not much of a tech genius nor do I have the drive to get my ideas going, I have better solutions in my head that would take something like this a few steps further. I am not much of a maker, just an idealist thinker.

Hey Josh! I’m an engineer with BenchSentry. Wow-thank you for such a long and thoughtful response! Your are right, the electronics is certainly the most expensive part. As far as the plastic, fortunately we are much better than your Home Depot bucket... The key to breakdown in UV (sunlight) as I’m sure you know is blocking UV. We are using an expensive formulation of 3 different UV additives for long life in direct sunlight. This is a proven formulation that has been used in other outdoor applications. We have confirmed the durability with accelerated life testing to assure color stability and good impact strength after 3 years of direct exposure. I also understand your idea I think for insert molding metal into perhaps the floor for even more strength when the floor or back are bolted or cabled to a structure. Good thought for the future!

How do the delivery workers know to type in the numbers?
@proudasiangirl5763 жыл бұрын
You'd probably have to leave "instructions" when ordering a package. For example, on Amazon, there's a place for you to leave a comment or instructions before checking out. Then the passcode will be printed on the label upon delivery.
@jgetscensored78372 жыл бұрын
This looks like a truly great product, but when you consider most delivery drivers can’t even be bothered to gently set down your package, I can’t see many taking the time to punch in a code, lift a lid, and close it when they’re done.

Been looking for a box and stumbled upon this one. I have a question that might sound dumb but I’ll ask it anyway; for the top to open they have to input the last 4 numbers of the tracking number. Is it safe to assume I have to input that number into the app or will it just open with any four digits?

I went to their website. There are lots of ways to steal from this and the entire box itself. It uses Wi-fi 2.4 GHz as the ONLY means of communicating with only Apple and Android smartphones. I have a feeling it is made in some Communist dictatorship like China. It requires a physical U.S. household electrical outlet to power it. Now that can be overcome with use of "solar generators" which are nothing more than fancy batteries. Batteries that can be connected to grid power, solar panels, and even fuel based generators as a many layered power backup scenario. At nearly $340.00 this is way expensive for all the faults that it has.

Thiefs will simply steal the whole box. It's just plastic so no problem to cut it open afterwards. Oh and a 120V required on the porch?? Good luck with that!
@benchsentry8325 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, you bring up some good points and we're happy to address them. 1. Thieves would have to be certain there's something to steal in the first place. We've talked to countless police departments that confirmed these are predominantly crimes of opportunity. An easy-to-spot vulnerable package sitting on a front porch is easy pickings compared to coming up and trying to lift the BenchSentry and shake it to see if anything inside. 2. BenchSentry is made of a heavy-duty impact-resistant thermoplastic that is tougher to cut through than you think. We tried...it sucks! 3. It's also 35" x 23" x 25" and weighs 45 lb (empty) so picking up and running off with furniture that big and awkward will be a challenge. We did design pre-drilled holes into BenchSentry so you can mount it to the ground, a wall, or run a security cable through it for added security. 4. Finally, we're launching with a plugged in model to ensure BenchSentry is always on and the homeowner doesn't have to routinely charge it. This was an overwhelming recommendation from our testers and community feedback. That being said, if BenchSentry loses power, it notifies the homeowner immediately through the mobile app and has a backup battery to perform a secure shutdown so delivered items are locked inside until power is restored and you reset it with your owner code. We do plan have future plans for a battery kit to convert your BenchSentry if you want. We want that option to meet our standard of reliability before we offer it. Thanks for commenting!

@@benchsentry832 Thanks for the detailed reply. You obviously did your homework creating this product. The battery kit is a good idea, I would have no way of plugging this unit anywhere on or near my porch. I live in Canada, how does it fare in -40C temperatures?

@@michelfortin7055 Wow, -40C? That's the first time we've heard that question. At that temperature, the battery would need compensation to operate effectively. Do you have porch pirates (or anyone) outside at those temperatures? That's wild! Stay warm up there.
