The Saints Williams trade also includes what might be the Worst Trade That Never Happened since it is said they offered all of the picks to the Bengals first who turned them down so they could draft Akili Smith

@@lukefreund08 That might not even be their worst, David Klingler was just as bad, and Kijana Carter had even worse injury problems. Peter Warrick feel way short of expectations as well, and so did John Ross. He could almost do a whole video on Bengals first rounders just covering the 80's, 90's, & 2010's.

Thank you for starting this list with Steve Largent. When you go back on film, it boggles my mind how smooth he played (no gloves by the way) and how easy he could at times make it look getting past the defender. The guy was a QB's best friend and for a young franchise like Seattle, that's probably the best compliment you could give him. Also the fact he would walk into the stadium alongside regular fans endeared him heavily to the Seattle area. When you think of how Houston couldn't get past that Steeler wall in the AFC and the fact they let a Hall of Famer go for that cheap...

Part of the reason the trubisky trade was so bad is because San Francisco WASNT drafting a QB. The bears sold the farm (or at least all the equipment) just so another hypothetical team didnt trade up in front of them instead.
@benchwarmerbran

One deal from back in the day that should be on this list, or at least close to it, was the 1970 Paul Warfield trade. Not only did this trade help the Dolphins win 2 super bowl titles, including a perfect season, but the reason the Browns made this trade in the first place was so that they could acquire QB Mike Phipps. As a general rule, i feel like whatever you think its worth giving up to acquire a potential franchise QB, trading away your no 1 receiver is a really really bad idea, since it makes said rookie's job a lot harder than it otherwise needs to be

There's no reason to talk about it much yet when year 1 isn't complete. Bryce has looked more competent without Reich (even if he faced a Joe Barry defense) and he's got zero supporting cast. Despite that, he's still put up 2 game winning drives (and Carolina had 2 from 2018-2022 iirc). He needs reinforcements badly and I'm hoping Carolina obliges.

Jeff Fisher was a lot of things for STL, but this troll job was LEGENDARY.

In 2009, the Bears traded a second round pick to Tampa for former #4 overall pick, DE Gaines Adams. The guy never had a sack for Chicago and sadly died the next year of an enlarged heart. This is a great list. As a Giants fan, I have to put the Craig Morton trade in there. They acquired him in the middle of the 1974 season in exchange for a package of picks that included a 1975 first-round pick, which ended up being the #2 overall pick because the Giants were so bad. The Cowboys used the 1975 #2 overall pick to draft Hall of Fame defensive tackle Randy White. Morton was terrible with the Giants, and then to add insult to injury, they traded him to Denver and he made it to a Super Bowl there. The 1970's Giants were horrendous.

The difference between what Dallas did with all their draft picks in the Walker deal and what Washington did with their picks from the Williams deal is absolutely astonishing. The Hershel Walker trade is the worst because the Walker deal included MORE picks if the players traded to the Cowboys got cut. Which, they did. The trade made the NFL draft a cornerstone market to be taken seriously as opposed to the cavalier way it was treated before. The cowboys ended up with around 4-6 extra picks because the players traded to them didnt make ANY of the benchmarks that would have allowed the Vikings to keep their draft capital. Still beats out the Watson trade, because the Browns are competing much sooner than the Vikings did. Other than that, great list.
@BlazingAce20
@BlazingAce20 Ай бұрын
I would agree but the running back position back then was way more important than it is now. When you look it was more of the Cowboys defense and Emmett Smith that basically won those Superbowls. The Vikings wanted someone who was starting to decline but they realized it too late. If they knew the trade would've been different. While the Browns wanting Watson was a horrible move and to pay him for something he hasn't even earned was beyond stupid. I would easily put that over draft picks. You never pay someone that much money until they earned it.

They might seek a trade partner but you just don’t incur that massive of a dead cap hit for a player who had a touchdown to interception ratio better than 3:1 If you’re out of the playoff race, or barely hanging on by a thread, it makes sense to take a look at the backup quarterback Besides, if Russ is to be cut, I’d think he would be inactive for the final two games instead of QB2

Brett Favre was an alcoholic in Atlanta so I believe if the Falcons kept him he would have been a career backup. Therefore I think it rightfully doesn’t belong in this list . I would say the Colts giving a 1/3 for Carson Wentz was one of those “what the hell?!? trades” as well as Sam Bradford from the Eagles to Vikings for a 1/4 was extremely head scratching . Both of those were the Eagles sending an ineffective injured quarterback for 1st round picks.

@@shawnjohnson9763 Bradford was hot garbage from the start. He tricked many in his first year with what appears to be highly efficient play but in reality the man was nothing more than a check-down king, racking up high completion percentage and a good TD-INT ratio but he couldn't push his offense down the field. He was the epitome of the shortcoming of the NFL rating system, which gives a QB who goes 3 for 3 for 9 yards (and a 4th down punt) a higher passer rating than a QB who goes 1 for 3 for 33 yards (with a new set of downs 33 yards closer to the end zone).

@@shawnjohnson9763 I don't know about his second year development prior to injury, but I watched him play on team after team once he became a journeyman and he played the same way he did his rookie year. Great for a backup and decent for a run first team, but he was way too much about small-ball and it kept leading to good stats in low scoring losses and that is what did in his career. Now it's not all his fault, if he just for some reason never got out of that mindset from his first year, the team GMs could have at least set up offenses to take advantage of his strengths and minimize the weaknesses, namely develop a tough running game and get small, nimble receiving targets who specialize in catching short and evading a tackle or two to extend the play on YAC yardage.

Ill say to you what I said in another comment, watson was throwing less than 200 yards a game, and barely had as many TDs as games played... the team looked no different with him at the helm as it did with DTR Watson was regularly placed in the bottom third of all QBs in the league, even under kenny pickett in the beginning weeks, he barely cracked the top half of all qbs on his last game when he got injured and has now played about 40% of the season 2 seasons in a row now... as a browns fan, and irregardless of what people think of him off the field. I have to say... FK Deshaun Watson

As a Vikings fan, the Hershel Walker trade should be on top. The picks that built the Dallas dynasty are just the tip of the iceberg. As my uncle would tell me every year during xmas we also traded a bunch of good players that we could not resign after Dallas cut them. This traded is the main reason Chris Carter does not have a ring.

the worst part about Cleveland's trade is that they would've been fine with Baker had they just been patient. Their defense this year is obscenely good, and they really only need a quarterback to reliably control the offense and avoid mistakes to win. Instead, they hamstrung themselves for a player in Watson who's playing worse than Baker and costs significantly more. Worse still, it doesn't even seem like Watson gives a shit. Mayfield was far, far from elite but at least he cared about the team.

I feel like David Boston needs to be an honorary mention for multiple trades. Finishes out his rookie contract and the Chargers sign him to a 7 year, $47 million contract with $13 million guaranteed in 2003! NOBODY was getting guaranteed money back then. Played 14 games with the Chargers until Marty suspended him & traded him to the Dolphins for a 6th round pick. He didn’t even make it out of camp for the Dolphins before testing positive for steroids & suspended for 4 games. Then he tore his knee ligaments before he was even served his suspension. Out for the season. Dolphins cut him at the end of his 2nd season - only played 5 games and caught 4 passes for 80 receiving yards for them. Tampa Bay picked him up but was released before the regular season after catching a DUI. Then bounced to the CFL where he caught 2 passes and was forced to retire due to multiple injuries. Boston had SOOOO much potential but squandered it.

I really don't get the hate for the Trubisky trade-up. Yes they selected the wrong guy but the capital given up was hardly anything when compared to other similar trade-ups. Also if there is one sure thing about rookie QBs it's that their situation is a good indicator of their career success, so it's very likely Mahomes isn't the same guy if he goes to Chicago.

I’d say the trade for Bryce should have been up there. The Panthers traded away DJ Moore, the pick that turned out to be Jalen Carter, and their pick next year, which will most likely be the number 1 pick. DJ Moore and Jalen Carter have been lighting it up, while Bryce Young has sucked and they also lost the rights to draft Caleb or Marvin Harrison Jr.

I agree with the trubisky trade being on this list, but I personally think he isn’t as bad as people make him out it be. He’s by NO means a starting QB. But if an actual effective coordinator made an offense capable of utilizing his fastball combined with his legs I think he’d be a serviceable QB. Not GOOD. But serviceable.

A couple of tid bits. The Ricky Williams trade, the 1st rounder in the following draft ended up being the second overall pick. Russell Wilson trade, he did not ask for that contract extension the Broncos gave him. The Deshaun Watson trade, it never had a chance to work and shows a deeper rot in the organization between the head coach and front office/owners. Watson needs to play a certain way, shotgun, roll outs, 7 step drop backs the few times he does play under center etc. and isn't very good at being under center with 3 step drop backs. So can you guess which way Stefanski has Watson playing most of the time? Yeah under center with 3 step drop backs. Watson and Stefanski do not mesh, it was doomed from the before it began.

Honorable mention: Washington trading their first rounders and some second rounders to St. Louis so they could draft RG3. It's moreso bad in hindsight since RG3 got hurt badly, AND Washington could've gotten someone like Wilson or Tannehill later on in the first round (or even Kirk Cousins, who they picked in the 3rd round anyway), but the reason it should only be an honorable mention is because of that rookie season being phenominal for RG3, while St. Louis basically did nothing with the picks they got

The Walker trade is still worse than the Watson trade. Watson at least had 19 TD to 12 INT and had 465 Rushing Yards with 3 TDs. The Vikings basically gave the Cowboys a Dynasty and Walker only rushed for 2,264 yards and 20 TD in 42 Games in Minnesota. The Vikings went 6-10 and 8-8 in the 2 full seasons with Walker in the backfield and by 1991 Terry Allen was averaging more yards a carry. Watson trade may not be great, but the Texans aren't a Dynasty because of it.
