recording was made in deepest winter, the organ was out of tune and the pneumatics were veeeeery lazy and unreliable. btw: its a steinermeyer organ with 55 stops
aufgrund vieler wünsche, hier mal ein repost auf einer anderen Orgel, leider spielerisch wieder sehr "durchwachsen" =) die aufnahme wurde im winter gemacht, die pneumatik war sehr träge und das pfeifenwerk teilweise sehr verstimmt!

Die Aufnahmen von Klaus Badelt beziehungsweise Hans Zimmer legen nahe, was historischer nicht sein könnte, die haben die Instrumente auch nicht vor jedem Spielen neu gestimmt auf den "kleinen" Schiffen.

youre right, it was soooo cold, when i recorded this. about 5 degrees celsius in the church. the organ was built in 1962, but it holds pipes from 1901. all made by steinmeyer, all along 51 stops

The fact that he is playing this all from memory is outstanding. The organ is already a complex machine to play and to be able to play from memory incredible. This is my favorite kind of music by far over all music. Listening to the organ being played effects me in ways most music can't. It is in my opinion the best work of art and sound ever made.

Ich entdeckte das Video vor 7 jahren, und habe seit dem sehr viele Orgel Cover gehört. Es ist auf dem Platz 2 der besten, aber Platz 1 im Herzen, da hier völlig frei gespielt wird! Erst diese kleinen Fehlertöne machen es perfekt, da man durch denen erst merkt, dass ein Instrument nichts ist ohne seinem Spieler dahinter!

organs cant get out of tune he just did it in a different key

tezla actual organs, like any other instrument, can get out of tune. temperature can throw many different instruments out of tune, especially those that work on wind to produce sound. an electrical keyboard will not go out of tune, but that's about it. tune a guitar outside during winter and go inside, see what happens. same thing can happen to an organ.

depends if the organ was electronic or pipe and usually since the room is kept at roughly the same temperature it wont change the pipes that much

what you are looking at is a pipe organ. probably in a church, and judging by the style of the organ, it's a slightly old church. since insulation was poorer in earlier years, it is safe to assume the temperatures are dropping 3-4 celcius during winter even with heating. that is enough to make pipe-organs go out of tune. both wood and metal expand and retract with temperature.

The problem is headphones only make sound for your ears, and sometimes you need to feel the vibrations. Somebody makes a bass speaker that you wear like a shawl so you can feel it properly, to use with headphones. Sorry, I don't have one to give a lookup, maybe someone else can add that.

uh hard question: intro: 16' bourdon and all 8' stops, later adding reeds fagott 16' and schalmei 4' and tiefe mixtur 2 2/3' on swell. rückpositiv: lieblich gedackt 8' nachthorn 4' and a 2' flute. hauptwerk: solotrompete 8' cornet and some prinzipals... in the middle part: trompette harmonique 8' on sweel with suavial 8' and some accompainent on rückpositiv, later built up to full organ ;)

well an organ consists of wood and metal, the materials work at different temperatures, that means they get bigger or smaller, so the tone is affected... you cannot set the air flow, this is always constant. many organs does have a swell. that means that you have an expression pedal, with this you control louvers or blinds, that closes the chamber where the sound comes from. the sound gets more quiet or louder ;)

Indeed so! Of course, tuning stability can also be affected by the pipe's voicing and how it is tuned - so an 1890s high-pressure reed tuned with the scrolls on the resonators will hold its tune better than a modern low-pressure reed tuned with the springs.
