Hermes' comment was more fueled by his dislike of giving people time off than actual bigotry. He is a bureaucrat rather than a bigot.

Hermes is all about order and bureaucracy and is not chill about bending rules. Basically what stereotypically is NOT what a Jamaican is known for which is "to be chill and ride the wave of life, and bobsled... mon".

No gratuitous alien nudity? You're forgetting about the alien robot centerfold Bender was drooling over.

While I agree with your overall thoughts, you might be overthinking it. In this world, robots have their own religion with their own recognized holidays. Since Bender was just making up his own holidays, Hermes wasn’t legally obligated to recognize his requests for days off.

The thing about Hermes is that he is NOT a racist or a bigot of any kind, he's a bureaucrat and expects everybody to be present and working, which is why he made such a comment about the laws.

He's also very by the book. Of course this reaction is a year old so you probably know Hermes a lot better by now LOL.

Not respecting someone's religion or religion in general isn't bigoted. You have to respect their right to hold those beliefs and practice them, but, if we're truly valuing diversity, you can't be obligated to respect the beliefs themselves. Especially when you suspect they're just being used to get out of work, as is implied here of Bender.

Indeed. While on one hand, it's important to be accepting. But on the other hand, one can also say that it's just as important to be accepting of people having a problem with somebody else for their beliefs. The most important thing, in my opinion, is to not be confrontational about that sort of thing. You can have a problem with a person's religion, or way of life, but keep it to yourself, and have enough respect to accept them for who they are, even if you don't agree with who they are. Because who they are is their business, not yours.

Funny watching u trying to understand the hologram being taken by a bird, I had the same face when I first saw this 🙂 Why does a planet inhabitated by robots have a shortage of lug nuts? Aren't they usually made by robots? 😂 The biggotry of this series is so well thought through, many times when they make a joke about certain types or groups of people the joke is actually on those who have the weird views Hermes quote about "accepting Benders diversity as required by the law" is also a joke on those who accept it just because the laws says so and brings the subject to the surface so that people think about it, u seem to have low expectations from people in the 90'ies, it was the young adults in the 90'ies who started bringing justice and respect to the LBTQ-community 🙂

A day without "Futurama" is a dark one indeed. The "syfy channel" is trying to sell their next "Sharknado" series and "don't do 'Futurama."

Oh also if you believe we live in a democracy yet believe voting third party is throwing away your vote then feel free to look up the definition of democracy

True, unfortunately, the US push for the two party system creates this two team divide that makes everything binary. Theoretically anyone could be their own party and run on their own morals instead of platitudes of a generalized party, that however may be a bit too narrow-minded. But smaller parties will help America by giving the American people real choice and by looking at our cereal aisle we love choice. I would love to go on MSNBC's Morning Joe and ask Joe what cereal he likes with his coffee and then tell him he can only pick one of two. On another note, we have the technology to make individual votes count for all of America instead of gerrymandered districts. The only reason we have that dumb system is because votes were taken to Congress by literal horseback back when America began.

Hermes is 100% bureaucrat his comment is based purely on having people work, no respect, follow the rules. Like with the last episode you likening Brannigan to Trump in killing hundreds of thousands and getting credit for it. You are putting your biases onto the show and over thinking things. When a joke is made on the show it is literally just that, nothing more. Jokes are jokes. It is the themes that display the philosophical messaging. Like with this episode the theme is feelings of inferiority in society, they then go to a planet where it is opposite in power structure and it's not good at all, showing ultimately that the whole thing doesn't matter, everyone is just incompetent.

What do you mean being okay with trans people is the bare minimum for what is required for you to be a decent human being? Are you nuts? I mean, bad stuff should be threated like bad stuff.
@Tsuliwaensis
@Tsuliwaensis 2 жыл бұрын
see, you say things like that... the whole rant about what makes a decent human being and it makes me awww and I nearly subscribe... but then I remember that you're watching the Big Bang Theory and I'm confused again. how does that compute? there's very little that show does other than misogyny, homophobia, racism, and I'm sure lots and lots of other vile stuff (I'm doing this from memory of the very little I actually subjected myself to a long while ago, although I've read articles about how it never got better through the entire run). it's about as disgusting and unfunny as American comedy ever got. how are you watching that without having your brain puke the whole time through... I just don't get that. to be fair, I haven't watched your reactions. maybe your brain is actually puking the whole time through and you're putting those reactions out as some type of performance art, you know, to make a point. please, someone let me know if that's the case, because that would change everything! 😄
