This is great. In just about 2 months I've gone from not really knowing anything about bends, to listening to your lessons, tim pierce, papastache and mimiciing/practicing these bends...to improvising with them and now you've defined them for me! Thank you for being the rational guitar teacher of youtube.

Interesting that you mentioned the 440 Hz signal as the "A" note. The dial tone on a telephone is the same A note. For many years, in a pinch, I've been tuning my 5th string to the dial tone. Can't thank you enough for your videos. Your down to earth, humorous delivery is refreshing and inspiring. At sixty, I'm finally appreciating lead guitar and the blues. Whatever you're smoking, keep t up.

440 is called concert pitch. throughout time there were different standards. even today, different orchestra's will tune to a different pitch as their standard.. lastly, there's a whole debate over 440 vs 432 you can google..you can google the history of concert pitch/440 as well

Thank you, Ian...you are an amazing teacher! You don't only teach techniques, but you magically add tidbits of theory in your lessons so that we understand what we're doing, and can apply them in our own playing. You're simply the best! This lesson (and everything else on your channel) is gold! P.s. The camera accents how good your hair looks in this video. 👌

New camera rocks. Simple question : how come you have to pull UP the flat7 and the 4 to reach a higher note and pull DOWN the minor 3rd to reach a higher note ?
@davidkopec5587
@davidkopec5587 7 жыл бұрын
deloincec I have the same question.
@mamanoy
@mamanoy 7 жыл бұрын
David Kopec bending up or down does the same effect (raising the pitch of the note being played). The preference depends on the amount of space left on the fret board. For example, on the 1st string (high E), you won't have enough fretboard space to bend going down so bending up is the obvious choice. Now if you're on the 3rd/4th string, you have enough space to bend up or down.

Not a guitar question... But I know you can answer it... The powerful and moving song Halleluja... It's in C... But... The most dramatic moments are when a Major E is used... It should be E minor... What's going on here? Is there a name for this? Do you have any idea what I'm trying to ask you?
@davepilgrim5798
@davepilgrim5798 6 жыл бұрын
CHUCKO COMICS I dont know how to call it in english, i am italian. But it is a modal exchange. You can pick chords with same root from the minor/major scale and put them in the opposite scale. Example in C there is Am but you can use the A major chord in the song if the melody is ok. In this case, halleluja, is happend that you really feel that exchange but there is no rules about "dramatic effect".
