This was my wish to see Benedict in a role where he is just a regular guy. As this feels to relatable and raw.

I thought it would be a very dark, heavy film, in a sense it is, because it's about the biggest nightmare for parents, it's true. But it turned out to be about the power of the spirit. That you can survive in the worst nightmare, although it's hard to believe that you can survive, I mean. It's a very good movie.

When I was about six I got lost in a Cosco... I was with my Aunt and her husband (Jess and Zach). Zach had walked off to find something and Jess had asked me to look around the corner to see if he was there and I interpreted it as "look around to see if Uncle Zach is here" Because I was a complete idiot. So I turn the corner and walk around and I'm not finding him ANYWHERE. When I can't find him I go back to the aisle Jess was in and she was gone. I was so scared so I just kept looking for Zach. Eventually I found him and he took me to Jess and never again did I walk off in a store. Not until I had a phone to call my mom at least.

I just watched this Shame. It had good directing and acting but the plot was just a mess (spoiled warning) Why didn't they just check the CCTV cameras? Did the Police just forget about the child? How did you go missing? Spoiler Spoiler How does he actually see in the future and past? He can't just be seeing it because his mother saw him look through the window before he was born
@okaysweaty93627 жыл бұрын
It was based on the book and the book was pretty weird and lucid. I think they should have adapted it differently tho bc seeing it irl is just dislocating and strange. It was never intended to be a missing child crime/mystery but it didn't translate very well to screen

I worked in a supermarket for 8 years. A local lady and her 2 boys were in...everyone knew them...and the younger boy went missing. EVERYONE was upset by it and she was yelling for him, inside and outside of the shop. I am not sure why it took ages to find him but he appeared out of nowhere like nothing was wrong. Another time a lady thought she had come to the shop with her 12 year old son but he went missing. He had been in the car. The police were called. Turns out he walked in the opposite direction to the shops when they got out of the car and came back 2 hours later. It's REALLY hard to see parents panicking about their children like that. Seeing the gamut of emotions the mums go through when the kids are found and they're yelling, "Where the hell have you been?" is almost funny.
@Kvitka7776 жыл бұрын
You've no idea, children go missing every day in public places and they're never found. This film is poignant, and heart-breaking, and brilliant, and soothing. And Benedict is a true marvel, of course.

I don't understand why films like this are made and who apart from voyeurs, masochists and the emotionally stunted -whose grey lives require horror like this to feel anything -would choose to watch it.
@Leni17117 жыл бұрын
B. Hagedash because it's important to bring awareness to this topic. Because it's something that happens everyday and many people are disconnected from this horrible reality.

B. Hagedash People watch it for a cathartic effect: you watch it and then experience the relief that your child is safe
@hmm34847 жыл бұрын
B. Hagedash You may think that's why people will watch this (or similar programs) but I really think it has to do more with being empathetic and being aware of the potential for something like this to happen. Saying viewers are "voyeuristic, masochistic, and/or emotionally stunted" seems a rather snap judgment. Or do you think that mature people cannot watch movies like Schindler's List or The Pianist unless they do so for the reasons you spell out? And the whole "cathartic effect" comment? Again, I think most viewers will think less about how 'relieved' they are than about being empathetic and understanding of people who have experienced such trauma.
@annev59327 жыл бұрын
Have you read The Child in Time by Ian McEwan? I guess not. It's a marvellous book about the tragedy of losing a child, yes, but also about love and the power of time. With such a talented, brilliant actor as Benedict in it, I believe this film will be outstanding.
@b.hagedash79737 жыл бұрын
Cheers, I'll give it a try as I'm better at handling disturbing content when it's in book form.
