Lewis Latimer was born in 1848, there were working bulbs eight years before he was born.

@@krashd Thomas Edison was born in 1847. But you're comfortable giving HIM credit for inventing the light bulb. Did these antebellum bulbs work the way the modern light bulbs work? Were they reliable?

@@laughingstalk1343 I was talking about the bulbs that existed in 1840 before either Latimer OR Edison were born. The 1880's lot were faffing about with filaments to try and see who could create the longest lasting bulb but no one in 1880 created the light bulb, it was already 40 years old by that time.

He didn't invent the lightbulb, they existed before he was born, he just perfected them eventually by using carbon filaments so they wouldn't burn out within a few weeks like all previous bulbs. Edison 'inventing' the lightbulb is one of the most prevalent myths in existence.
