PLEASE NOTE: I am getting a LOT of questions of people asking about leaves for berries related to blackberries and more. For those related to blackberries, especially very closely related, I would assume that they benefits would be at least VERY similar but have not looked into each individual one for myself and do not have the time to look up each one so what I suggest is do a bit of digging for yourself for the particular berries you grow or grow wild around you. If you are unsure how to go about that, here is a video I put together to help you find what you are looking for: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2rVZWukitd2b5I

Ferment the leaves in order for it to smell and taste like blackberries. Take fresh leaves, wash and pat dry, take a rolling pen or the bottom of a cup (use what you have) and bruise the leaves. Put them in a jar but don’t pack them tightly. Label and place in dark cabinet for two weeks. When you open the jar in two weeks it will smell like blackberries. Now dehydrate or dry in very low heat oven. Then store for tea. It tastes amazing!

Would you say the young, tender or older, more dark green is better for fermentation. And,you do nothing but crush, slightly? Can it be used in any way other than drying it? Would it kill the fermentation to make a hot tea. Not boiling,of course. Thank you!

@@toneenorman2135 I've never done this with blackberry leaves but generally speaking, salt is only a safeguard against pathogens, not actually necessary for fermentation. My guess is there's probably natural yeasts on the leaves that ferment them, and enzymes activated by the crushing that contribute to the flavor change.

No you are amazing! LOL. Thanks for the idea! I bet this makes the tannins in it only work for you in a good way even in higher doses. Just my educated guess though. Don't know for sure. My great granddaddy was a country veterinarian in rural Texas. He taught me to feed my mares on dew berry leaves when their foals had the scours (diarrhea) from the mare's foal heat. After a mother horse (mare) gives birth to her baby (foal), she often becomes ready to be bred again while still nursing her baby. This hormonal cycle frequently gives the baby diarrhea because of the changes in the mother's milk and the hormones in it. Dew berry plants are plentiful in the woods and along the creeks in Texas, so Grandaddy Ed would tell the farmers to use what was free and at hand for their horses. He also said it was good for the mothers to help them make more milk and be calmer. I know it made a difference for my foals.

A few years ago, I found instructions on DIY blackberry leaf tea that said to wash, crush & ferment the leaves 4-5 weeks in a mason jar. I put mine in my car windshield and then dehydrated it. The tea has a very pleasant fruity flavor and works like a charm for stopping diarrhea, at least for me. It also helps soothe my stomach if a food just doesn't "set right". Good luck with your blackberry tea adventure!

Back in the 70s, I went out making my own natural Pacific Northwest beachy tea mix. Raspberry-berry/leaf/green cane, blackbery-berry/leaf/green cane, rose-flowers/hips/leaf/green cane, plantain, mullein, mallow, dandelion, green pine needles, cranberry-berryleaf, pcean sand dune wild strawberry-berry/leaf, hibiscus-flower/leaf, blueberry-berry/leaf, clover-flower/leaf, pigweed amaranth leaf, lambsquarters amaranth leaf, ... air-dried and crumbled. When made into a tinctured tea - tasted like hay - but the effects were awesome. 25 years later sitting in the folk's (hot) attic in jars - they were bundled and sold as tea packets (unbeknownst to me) - to the local beachy people. One lady came back with such joy, "where can I get some more of THAT ! ?" It had begun fixing her up when all other medcines and pills were non-productive. Mother explained that I was no longer around - and that it was wild harvested. Still had the kick of Granny Clampett's Spring Tonic ! A lot of noted Vit C, but all the other mix of vits, (essential and non-essential) amino acids, and minerals. If there had been any loquat, kumquat, orange, lemon, lime, and fig trees for fruit and leaves they would have also gone into the mix.

Hello , I was watching your previous video on how to make nut milk and using the almond pulp to dehydrate into almond flour, well I did it for the first time and made large drop biscuit and slice it into halves lengthwise and making this my keto bread/buns. It turned out really great. I'm sold on this and will be continue to make these. I am gluten sensitive and this makes me feel so much better since I don't eat white flour bread. You're so informative and I do look forward to your videos and learn something each time. Here is the recipe if you want to share it with your fellow viewers. Preheat oven 450 1-1/2 Cup of Almonds flour 1 teaspoon of Mont Fruit 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda 1 tablespoon of Baking Powder 1/2 cup of Sour Cream 4 tablespoon of melted butter 2 slightly beaten eggs Combine all dry goods, add eggs, sugar, sour cream, butter. Mix well and using an ice cream scoop place bread mixture on a silicone mat. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly golden on top. Continue on giving us some valuable teachings and your encouragements it is much needed in the times we are facing in the world now. God Bless you.

@Di There's a very quick way to multiply your blackberry plants - without any seeds: Each blackberry cane will grow new roots practically anywhere on any cane to form a new plant. All it needs is warm, moist soil, & a couple of weeks time. Here's the steps: ▪︎Gently bend the blackberry stalk over until the middle of the stalk touches the ground. (Don't break it! It should bend easily enough.) ▪︎ Mark the spot it is touching the ground with a rock or something. ▪︎Make a mental note of where on the stalk it was touching the ground. Or mark the stalk with moist soil. ▪︎Now you can let the cane back up. ▪︎On the blackberry cane, (or stalk) find the nearest plant node to the spot which was touching the ground, again, and remember where the new spot is. (Plant Node - where leaves are emerging from the cane) ▪︎On the ground where the cane was touching, clear away any leaves, weeds, or grass, so you have bare soil where the plant touches the ground. ▪︎You won't need much clear space. Just about a square inch or 2. ▪︎Water the soil thoroughly in that new bare spot. ▪︎Once and for all, bend the cane back over, and where that plant node is, place it firmly onto the top of the soil. Not deep, just make sure one side of the cane is making good contact with the top of the soil. ▪︎Place a rock, or something else a bit heavy on top of the stalk to hold it in place. The object only needs to be heavy enough to hold the stalk down. ▪︎Walk away! ▪︎In no time at all (a week or 2) that blackberry stalk will have grown roots and rooted itself into the soil. ▪︎When the new roots are nice and strong, it's time to cut the newly rooted plant from the mother plant. ▪︎Make a cut between the original plant (mother plant) and the new roots. ▪︎Plant the newly rooted plant wherever you want it to grow. ▪︎You now have a whole new plant! And both canes will grow berries. This method can be done over and over to end up with as many plants as you wish.

Thanks for this info on black berries. I harvest the wild blackberries in my hedgerows every season. I will try the leaves which I had no idea the benefits. I collect about a gallon of red and blackberries , most of them I eat raw and some made into cobblers, pancakes, etc. etc.

Your video was very insightful & helpful to know you can use leaves to make tea. I love berries all kinds offer great health benefits so everyone should eat them in season. I eat them fresh or pop them into smoothies or have for breakfast. They can be expensive to buy so love to grow my own tree. Thank you bless you ❤🍎🥝love from New Zealand.

Great video, thankful to see this. I dried blackberry leaves prior to blossoming, then in autumn had few cucumbers that were about to freeze outside (baby size) so i fermented them with dill, mustard seeds, the blackberry leaves first in bottom of the jar, it did keep the cucumbers crisp, enjoyed in 2-3 months.

Thank you for sharing everything you can. I've used my black raspberry leaves as tea too help me get through a nasty cold. I would it and mint too open my air way. And last year I devided my comfrey plant from one plant too 5 now and boy did they produce well just from one small piece I also slip up my rhubarb plants . Had too because the groundhog was destroyed the 2 rows I had now there's 20 plants going strong. I covered them all with oak leaves. Even my mother was surprised at how big they became. The leaves were the size of both arms put together about 2'.

Use them in teas with raspberry leaves and the dehydrated fruit. Very tasty with lemon and honey. Also use in a mixed green blend as you have shared. I think the leaf is just beautiful. Someone needs to breed a thornless variety be a small small compact herbaceous plant for borders. Thank you for sharing more about them. Always a pleasure spending a bit of the morning listening.❤

Living on ten acres in mountains of southern Oregon 👍🏽We have so much bounty on this land!!! I’m currently drinking blackberry tea, using fresh tender leaves. Last fall, we harvested the ‘rose hip’ and made jam, loaded with vitamin C, among other vitamins. We will be using our fresh raspberry leaves next. Then strawberry’s!!!

Yes, fresh is great for any herb in season, no need to dehydrate them for that/ I dehydrate for teas through the time when such things are not growing
