Interesting take. I am indeed resourceful and independent, but I am the opposite of resilient. I have missed out on so much of life because it simply doesn't occur to me to approach people for help or support and therefore I never form connections that way (yay independence :/), as for resilience, any kind of negative reaction hurts so much I immediately want to stop existing so I avoid interaction at all costs. And i'm not a high achiever AT ALL - no amount of effort led to any kind of positive reaction at all. For me the way forward has been through reparenting, learning interdependence, supporting myself through rejections gently. Not everyone learns effectively the hard way, sometimes the hard way just breaks you, and you have to spend 20 years which should have been your youth undoing the damage and trying to build something better in its place.

I remember I had lost a lot of weight, joined the service, came back from deployment, was back at home for a while and started joining 5ks. I get 1st in age group and my dad says “so who actually got 1st in the race” next race I get 2nd overall my dad goes “who won first”, I ran another race pushed real hard and came back with a 1st place overall he goes, “so you are paying to go run?” 😂. He gre up in a farm in Mexico and I mean, rocks show more emotion and love than he and his siblings (he had like 8 brothers and sisters and a few died as he was growing up) That was years ago but yea I am pretty independent, I do have a pretty good drive and an above average work ethic, but I think I do seek validation, and I am horrible at relationships, like seriously bad at them but I do like being independent so maybe it works out.

Yeah, I grew up in an arctic desert with not one, but 2 emotionally bankrupt parents. It taught me real quick to just give up. Why try at anything because they wouldn't see it; hell they didn't even see ME. I literally thought I was invisible all the way into my teens. People, DON'T have children if your going to treat them like this! ***This is another reason why abortion needs to be kept legal & easily accessible. (There's nothing worse than not being wanted when your a child.)

That is a horrible feeling for someone to feel like they are not wanted by their parents or that they are a burden.

I wouldn't say we are more resilient at all Hyper-indedepence aka counterdependent is a trauma response. This type of repression leads to cancer
