I’m 24, finished college, and have been working in the corporate world for about a year with my degree. I have found that I hate it. I was a college athlete and now I’m stuck behind a desk. I am enlisting in the Air Force this year for the benefits and camaraderie, free housing, etc. as of right Now it would be a huge upgrade for me even considering I have a college degree. It’s even better because I might go for my masters while in. No matter how I look at it it’s a huge upgrade. Nothing can convince me otherwise at this point. Even the degree allows me to apply to become an officer after a year of service however im not sure that’s the route I would personally want to go but we’ll see. I just feel like this is a great option and a big upgrade in life. I’ve also read that I’ll come in as an E3 which im not sure is true or not but I don’t mind either way. Also I would like to add that my preferred job is broadcast journalism as that’s what I studied in college however I am by no means married to that position and I would happily take a plethora of other jobs I qualify for depending on how I test.

If you do the full 20 years and have some sort of disability, your retirement will be taxed free. One of our friends retired as a Master Sergeant Air Craft Mechanic and because he lost some of his hearing his retirement is tax free. Another benefit is if you leave after 20 years and find another job on a base, you will most likely get that GS job. And last but not least, you make so many connections that can and will help you in the future.

Hi Sydnei! First and foremost, I love the way your name is spelt!! I am a new subscriber and enjoyed how informative yet real this video was. I’m interested in applying for HPSP which is a scholarship through the military for health care professional. I have always had an interest in joining but the educational aspect does motivate me. I wanted to know if you had any information on this scholarship or knew of anyone who received this scholarship. I will be attending PA school this January and wanted to apply. From what I have researched, they pay full tuition and stipend to cover living expensive . The payback is a minimum of three years active duty. My main question is would I be working as a PA throughout those years or would I be in combat? Or any other position. Meaning is it 100% that I would be working as a PA or can they just switch me up at any point to what they need? Thanks :)

@@trulynai1564 at least if you do deploy in air force, at the longest you should be gone for six months. If you joined the army and deployed the you'll be gone for quite a bit longer, at least nine months. I'm doing about ten months in the army and it gets tiresome being gone for this long, even things you don't think about like taking a laxative to clean out your digestive system plus having to deal with the exact same people every single day all seven days a week for about a year without a break and having to be I. A tent or a small bay with a bunch of guys constantly farting all night and making all kinds of other racket. So with air force things should be quite a bit better than army.

So if you are going to school in the military, do you take your classes s in a military base or in a civilian school? Do I have to get a job that has less hours so I can go to class and study? Just curious because I’m interested in nursing but I’m still have to take my major class (chemistry, physiology, microbiology) and I’m tempted to take them in the military but I’m not sure because I don’t know how a veteran can serve and also go to school.

Military bases do not have colleges/universities. You would be in a civilian school. You cannot control your hours they are given to you when you join active duty. You are FULL TIME so whatever that means for that particular career field. If you are a veteran that means you have already served.

Well this is a lot of hypotheticals and unfortunately I can't really answer those. I will say this that officers are pilots in the military and that may be what the other Air Force members meant. However, we would all be in the fight, just not flying aircrafts. Cargo pilots tend to not be in combat however, they are involved in some capacity in order to bring goods and transport.
