Rue is an incredible herb to have growing in your yard. Rue has a long history of medicinal use, and was used to treat things like digestive issues, menstrual disorders, respiratory problems, and skin conditions. Yes it can be toxic in large quantities so don't go juicing it. It also is a great insect repellant. It has things like rutin and alkaloids which in combination with its smell, keeps bugs like flies and mosquitos. You can plant it around your garden to also help keep those bugs away. You can rub fresh leaves on your skin, soak the leaves in water and use it as a spray, or dried and put in bags around areas that you need them most. Rue can cause irritations in some people so, you know, use caution as you would anything else.
Now on to ashwaganda.., you know you're buying it at costco and amazon but look at the amazing seeds that come out of part of one seed pod. get some seeds and throw them around your yard and let nature take its course. it is an adaptogen which helps us balance stress which we all have a ton of these days. i gave it to my dogs when they had thyroid problems and it helped them a lot. ashwaganda helps with sleep, immunity, energy, memory, and inflammation.
Rue and ashwaganda are only two of sooooo many herbs you can plant in your garden so yes while lettuce has nutritional benefits, salads can only get us so far in our health. so get to growing some of these wonderful herbs. Thanks for watching along at our Lil Patch of Heaven Farm located in Ramona San Diego.
