Today on Wisconsin Wonder Garden you will learn how to take cuttings from your Rosemary and more importantly HOW TO GET THEM TO GROW! The Rosemary is a great herb that can be used in many cooking applications so it is a must have. In many locations it can be grown as a perennial but in Wisconsin that can be difficult sometimes so I will have to be sure that I cover it up this winter :)

I actually had something crazy happen when my original rosemary plant died. At first glance, I thought it was dead. A few months later, when I had to throw it out, I spotted this tiny green branch peeking out behind the dead plant, and I had a crazy idea: why not put it in water to see if it would grow? I did exactly that, and a few hours later, I saw roots coming out. Now, it’s in soil, and thriving.

Probably because you change water. Don't do that, you'll throw out all the growing hormone plants produce and greatly reduce the chances of propagation.

Great video sir. Thank you. For the benefit of bees and butterflies and so on I took my first cuttings of hebe at the beginning of June (in UK)and put them into compost. One dropped to pieces fairly quickly but I had hopes for the other two as I gave them a gentle tug and they stayed in the pot. However...a bit later the leaves started to drop off and that was the end of the trial! So I am now trying some more in the pot and one in water. I am just a bit worried that the pile of dead cuttings is going to end up bigger than the original plant! I am also trying some rosemary at the same time! Blessings and peace

@@dulcegomez4469 I'm not your youtube expert, but I tried and tried to grow basil, no luck. It's kind of finicky. I bought some grow lights and kept them inside and they went crazy. I had so much basil I didn't know what to do with it all. I had to keep cutting it back. Good luck!

Hi Ripley, thanks for the video Question, it is in the middle of summer in Melbourne Australia where i am. Our summer is quite variable this year, very hot day, lots of rain at times. If I pot the cuttings should I keep the plant inside or outside away from direct sunlight. Thanks Nick

i actually got about 11 cuttings and put them in soil with rooting hormone and then covered them in a plastic bag. so I have only watered it once in the last 2 weeks.. it's still pretty moist. but there all still still upright.. ill check it in about another week to see if they ae rooting.

Good idea to keep it scrubbed and not grow to tall and lanky like mine. I’ll do that. Thanks heaps.

Hi! Thanks for your video! Question, while trying to root them, should we place them in the shade, indoor, or ok to have direct sunlight?
