A single engine at sea is a cost cutting accident waiting to happen (and illegal in some countries without a get you home engine).

mhappy01: I'd be grateful if you could elaborate on the "other countries" please. A link to their legislation would be very useful. Single engine fitments are worldwide and if there are offshore or capacity limitations I'm sure other UK based viewers would like to have the opportunity to read for themselves.

Whatever the Country specific regulations are it would be poor seamanship and foolhardy to go offshore without a second mode of propulsion ie. oars, sails or an outboard.
