Best video on the Internet. I have a 1973 Honda CB 350. The clutch had me lost for six months and your video had the clutch fixed in six minutes.

Sweet! You are always here for me. I'm removing the cable now though... But, I'll be back to watch again when installing. Hope you are still getting credit with the Amazon links cause I'm using them to buy stuff!

Hey Brian. At 8:27, the part you are tightening that secures the cable into the plate, what is that called? I need to order one for my CB450 rebuild. thank you.

The nuts on top of the engine sprocket cover? Those were part of the clutch cable itself. I believe the 450s have a different setup. There is actually a bracket. Check the cmsnl website. You should be able to track down a part number.

Hi Brian, I did pretty much everything you showed to clean the clutch actuator, but once I reassembled everything, the gear lever no longer shifts, it just moves up and down freely, still in neutral. It shifted fine before I took it all apart, now I’m not sure what I did wrong. Thoughts? Thanks!

Is that ball bearing in the middle of the bearing for the clutch rod?

Hi Brian, Finding your posts very helpful on my CB250 rebuild. The metal rod that the ball bearing pushes against on my bike doesn't seem to move unless I pull it out by hand. Should it be sprung loaded or something ? I feel that when its all back together when the clutch lever is pulled nothing is going to happen ! I can pull the bar out quite a way, but am frightened to pull it right out, though probably could ! Many thanks, Andy

It should slide easily like that. It makes contact on the clutch basket on the other side of the motor.

Always great seeing this bike come together. Is the clutch cable from common motors or is it a universal fit?
@KeepOnWrenching
@KeepOnWrenching 4 жыл бұрын
It’s from Common Motor. So glad it fit. Super paranoid about that now.

Cable broke today, rode the day with no clutch, very fun! Tried to not stop, but had to at a few lights. Neutral, than a good push off and pop 2nd and wheelie out! Old folks thought I was nuts, and my dog was aboard for the mayhem also. Waiting on the new cable!!

You talk of the clutching popping on you? As something that could happen. I think this might’ve happened to me on my 69 cl350. What makes that happen and how does one fix it?
@KeepOnWrenching
@KeepOnWrenching 2 жыл бұрын
Too tight. It’ll pop out of the guide and need to be reset if it is too tight. There’s a sweet spot. Gotta follow those directions precisely. You’ll get it!

I quit. Got the clutch installed (a bit stiff even with all new cables and I oiled them last night), lubed the chain, put in a new battery. No start. No indicator light for neutral. No indicator for the right turn signal but I do for the left. Head light hi/lo works. blinkers work but slow. Rear brake light works front no. Horn works. I can cross wire the starter solenoid and starter does great turning over the engine. Just button for stater does not work. I've bought full replacement harnesses with upgraded bulbs, flasher relays, reg/rect (two new sets). Ate that cost but that's ok. I saw where someone had to use a splitter diode in the headlight bucket but it didn't come with either upgrade kits. I put a ton of work in this and loved it but I'm exhausted. I'm going to try and find someone to fix it (even though I've done everything right. Only thing I haven't replaced is the the two handle bar switches(controls). Regardless I'm so disappointed in myself that this didn't work. I'll try to find someone to fix it or I'll just take it apart and sell of each piece and use the money to buy a rebuilt bike. I'm running out of time and can't depend on another year working on this bike. Thanks though

@KeepOnWrenching 2 жыл бұрын
You have come to way too far to quit. And you're no quitter. Asking for help is never a bad thing...second opinions can be very enlightening. Don't be disappointed in yourself. It's not you...it's the riddle that old bikes offer up. With that said, If I recall correctly, everything was working electrically (minus the starter button) prior to your most recent work. There is always a reason. Something dumb usually. Why did you change to a new battery? Are you sure it is fully charged? The clutch adjustment can be very finicky. Try to loosen the adjustment at the handlebars to see if you can get it to loosen up. If not, You just needs to adjust on the flat head on the cover. You'd be loosening so hopefully you can avoid the dreaded "pop". The neutral light indicator is also something that you don't need to stress about. It's a very dirty area and that small green wire under the cover can be very problematic. Also, that switch contact can be filthy. I wouldn't stress that one at this point. Check the grounds on those signals that don't light...that can also mess up the flasher speed, that and a low battery! Diodes are only needed if are running LEDs. If you are, the diode is needed absolutely. Did you install the small grounding wire from the bottom of the tachometer to the bottom of the clamp for the handlebars? It's a small double eye wire...just a few inches long. It essentially grounds you handlebars and your switches! Take a step back. Get some time to breathe a bit. I know this stuff can be so frustrating. I've wanted to walk away many times too. So have MANY Wrenchers in the group. Approach it again with a clear mind. Make a list and try to see if there are some commonalities that lead you in the right direction. Sounds like it is mostly a wiring gremlin that you're fighting. They can be tracked down! Keep on wrenching, man! You will get this. b

Apparently you don’t understand that people have different levels of reading comprehension. There are also people who even though they are avid readers, process instructions much better visually. One of KZbin’s greatest benefits is having people who take the time to show us how to do things without the dryness of a manual. Thanks Brian!
