Schools in Britain started in 1800s were the place where children used to spend time started when their parents used to go to work in a factory. At that time each and every children in that area irrespective of caste, creed, religion were compulsorily used to attend. They were taught advance level of education at that time when western world didn't even know the value of education. There were more than 1 lakh Gurukuls in Madras presidency alone. Lord McCauley was stunned by the level of knowledge Indians had at that time. This is when Britishers decided to break the backbone of Indian education system. All these are explained in a book by Dharampal called 'Beautiful Tree'. He spend more than 30 years of life in London to get first hand archives of letters written by officials posted in India and their superiors in Britain. India is great, it's just that people don't know and realise
