I think another big reason the Panthers jumped into the first round because it gives them the 5th year option on the contract. Take him at 33 and you lose that extra year, similar to the Ravens trading into the end of the first for Lamar to ensure that contract.

I'm still trying to figure out the thought process behind the Penix pick. If we wanted a young QB to sit and learn behind Kirk, I feel like JJ would've been the better pick. I think we could've easily traded back with a QB hungry team, added more draft capital, and still grabbed up a defensive stud. This move proves that it's time for Fontenot to go.

@@caezardot Don't gotta tell me twice im on the Fire Fontenot train as we speak. Crazy part is Penix was actually my #2 QB in this class and original pick to us at 8. Before we signed Cousins so i don't hate the player at all i just hate how dumb and inept the FO is in handling the roster. They could salvage it if they can somehow get Hendrickson to go all in while cousins is here. But taking a round 2 or later edge and skipping the entire FA edge class or trade options. Is just ignorant with how bad our pass rush has been over the last decade plus.

The Pearsall pick by SF was and wasnt that big a surprise if you look at their situation at WR. All three of their top WR's are in contract negs, or wanting out, or something. The fact is that trio probably wont be the starting trio come game time.

I am hoping that My Houston Texans trade up to get Jer’Zhan Newton. He did not get picked in the first round. He is the player we need most. I have never been a fan of Ennis Rakestraw Jr. I believe he is overrated. He played for an overachieving MIzzou team. If we are not able to trade up for Newton, I would rather trade down again, rather than us the pick for Project Rakestraw. Michael Hall Jr. is too small to play defensive tackle in the NFL. Big offensive linemen will overpower this guy. He needs to gain about 25 or 30 pounts. Rakestraw and Hall would only make the Texana a marginally better (back ups, at best) on defense in 2024. These two picks would be okay, but nothing to write home about.
