The Professor seems to have got it wrong on two accounts. 1. Lower Assam is that part of Assam which is west of Kamrup district, including Kamrup district and not the Bengali speaking districts of Barak Valley which is called South Assam. 2. Darjeeeling and Siliguri were never a part of NEFA ( North East Frontier Agency, now Arunachal Pradesh) by any stretch of imagination. Darjeeling and its surrounding areas were are part of the kingdom of Sikkim, occupied by the Gorkhas and subsequently became a part of India post the Anglo Nepalese war and the signing of the Treaty of Sagauli.

Professor Probashi has lost his spine, and he doesn't speak for us bengali hindus. 4 generations of bengalis, continued humiliation has made his identity go away and developed a sense of self-loathing. Assam was Bengal. His previous generation didn't have to self-loath to survive.

In Assam 2 type of bengalis are lived : 1 Refugee and Assamese Bengali another bengali group known as Kachari Bengalis , thing is that my family is a part of Kachari Deb community my fore father came Assam 500 years ago when Jayantia King build Kachakanti Mandir, he was the one who brings us in Silchar for protecting the temple
