I think for people that want battery they shouldn't be looking at devices that charge towards to beastly performance as we all know, plug in gives the full performance. Great video Ben and glad someone is still making continuous vids on the Legion as it's literally a dream device. For me at least. Idk why but I always tap in every Legion vid although knowing every spec still love listening it all again and then hope that one day I'd be looking at it on my desk. The Legion series is the right way

Hi, I'm an art student too. I own surface pro 6 and currently locking my eyes on legion. If you're mostly into 2D arts and very light gaming I suggest going for the 2-in-1. However if you're going to do something that includes rendering like 3D or mid to heavy games I'd say this is quite the best choice. Just you need to buy a drawing tablet as an add-on. Hope this helps.

Ended up ordering a legion 5i Pro yesterday. I would've loved to go ryzen but there was a really nice sale on it and the performance is unbeatable so I just went with it. Great points. Better battery life is nice but the laptop needs to be plugged in for full performance so its pretty irrelevant. If you dont need high level of performance and need great battery life then this is the wrong laptop to get anyways. So, Intel is better but not by a lot so you cant go wrong either way. Great laptop!

exactly, man, these are performance machines and if you want a great battery and you want to use your laptop for light load tasks, low-end gaming, and 4k video playback then get ultrabooks (ex Asus zenbook 13s oled or mac air m1). These are best in performance these laptops are besting full-blown desktop computers from 1- 2 years back (10th gen intel based or equivalent AMD) that are without thermal throttling and it is much more portable, that just marvels man!

Indeed. Additionally, you can adjust the settings quite a bit to throttle the power consumption when you just need longer battery life for some mpre extended period.

Intel had all the time in the world, we were stuck at 2 core i7u series and 4 core i7h series for ages, and they could suddenly release quadcore u series when zen+ came along. But their laziness let amd catch up and then overtake them with zen 2. AMD's total revenue would be a fraction of intel's profits and it would've been impossible for such a thing to happen had intel even tried to innovate. Now we have more cores because competition is back. 7 years back, you could never have imagined this happening.

I HATE that these dont have a built in SD card slot. These have absolutely everything i want but that is a deal breaker. I need to get content up in a hurry and having to carry around a dongle/hub sucks. Content creators will always want built-in SD card slots, especially those who are out in the field doing work. If you like the design of the lenovo legion, the slim 7i is more for creators i think, but it has a lower wattage 3060 tho, but an SD reader

Is there any chance that you could compare the two in regards to compilation? Let's say c++, just pull some big project and check which compiles it faster (or more precisely, how faster is the intel one). I've been looking for compilation benchmarks for weeks but there isn't really any info. I want to use the laptop for development and gaming (that's why I don't want the mac) but the info about the relevant performance difference is nowhere to be found.

Honestly, I think it really depends on what you need the laptop for, but in my opinion, the Ryzen version is powerful enough, but I think I'd choose it for the battery life advantage over the Intel version. (I think any of them would be plenty enough for me - a bit of gaming and some embedded programming). P.S.: Great comparison!

@@unclechaelsneckvein I don't think there's that much difference. And amd might be faster if you're on battery rather than plugged in. That's probably why the comparison would be relevant. If intel version is 1.5x faster in majority of scenarios, you can just say just go for the intel because it's way better. Right? So I think he's taking into consideration all aspects and giving us a rounded review.

@@vladlazlo For sure. I'm just strictly talking about compilation speed (which is not easy to get data on). Jarrod compared the two CPUs (not in the Legion 5 Pro but in another laptop) and found that the Intel one was almost exactly 1.5 times faster in LLVM and Linux Kernel compilation (under Linux). Geekbench (which might be the best benchmark for compilation speed (??)) is also higher for the Intel one when on battery. But the AMD's battery life is also about 1.5 times of the Intel's. It's so hard to chose a laptop, not to mention that I hate that the touchpad is not in the middle.

Battery Life to me is only important in terms of the environment. For functionality not so much since everywhere I go these days there is a DC power available for charging. Also when mobile the battery is enough because most time I'm using it for light tasks or entertainment. I is definitely more convenient if I didn't have to be tethered to the wall but when there are sockets in parks, trains, planes, coffee shops the inconvenience is less of an issue. With the move to USB-C we can have 240W. So I hope we get rid of the barrel-type charger ports as reliable as they are, and go full in on USB-C Power Delivery. Apple return to magsafe on the MacBook Pro has shown just how popular USB-C is for charging since the magsafe has ended up serving more nostalgia than any real advantage. As we move to 3nm and more advanced process node the processors will be even more efficient. Intel 12th Genn is still on 10nm which is equivalent to TSMC 7nm. AMD Ryzen 6000 is on TSMC 6nm. Apple M 1 and M2 are currently on TSMC 5nm.

Intel just brainwashed a generation with the core i ads. They had another furnace called pentium 4 once. AMD was totally irrelevant during bulldozer days, but intel sat on their laurels and caused a tech stagnancy and amd caught up with their new zen cores. AMD got rid of phenom branding, but intel still has some pentiums, while amd still has their athlons. Both of them have just got those names, but are entirely new when it comes to architecture compared to their legendary and popular parts that ruled the top end in the 2000s.
