Hold this thumbs up for all the effort you went through to show practical applications. This is how product reviews should be.

If you don't need app control, you can pickup the Nanlite FS300b (300 watt bicolor like this light) and I fit 3 into a single hard pelican type rolling case. The cool thing with them is you can just use a single cord (no power brick - it's built in). The downside, to adjust the light you have to lower it down since the knob is on the back of the unit. For a 300x budget light - this seems pretty cool. Though most of the time I use SmallRig 450b (bicolor 450 watt - and only a small power adapter instead of a giant control box). But - also no app.

3:31 Maybe I misunderstood but isn’t the vast majority of light sources used by cinematographers “hard light” that they modify to be soft light? The only soft artificial light sources I can think of are led panels and light tubes which are very new.

I travel with my equipment extensively and I actually see it as an advantage that it does not have a control box. The control box on the 400 and up looks like it just adds a ton of bulk to the overall setup. Price and size play a much bigger factor than having a control box.

Love the examples. Really helpful. Thanks. I just picked up the 200w version in the UK on eBay for < £100. Certainly at that price it is no brainer I think. Many thanks.

A trick I use for battery power on lights that don't have accommodations for it is bringing an Anker 300 watt power station with me to the sets. I have powered my GVM SD300S 300 watt light with this power station up to 96 - 97% of brightness. I also use it for my Amaran 100d. Anker sells them on ebay labelled "Refurbished," but they are just store display returns (I inquired about their definition of "refurbished"). As such, they are sold at a much cheaper price. I got mine for the price of 1 higher end V-mount battery. It's been a godsend when power is not available. With all due respect, when demonstrating what a person can do with a 300 watt light, showing a scenario where you only have it at 3% is not beneficial. You could have used an Amaran 60d just as easily. I like the way you made this video though, otherwise.

Thanks for the advice! Totally respect adding value to the comments section. 🔥 I would have used another light if the entire video wasn’t about reviewing the GVM light! But I get what you’re saying 👍

I went with the pro 400b which does have the control box and v-mount battery mount.

They told me this light it’s amazing cuz isn’t noisy. Would you recommend the 200 or 300? For a small room like your kitchen.

Im my opinion it’s always good to have more light than not enough! So I would get the 300

If you want RGB then that is a great option! But price alone, the 300c is $570 USD almost $300 more

Almost 100% of the time I have the grid on the lights. Way more control of your lights so that adjusting the intensity of 1 light doesn't impact your 2nd light.
@wpse4 ай бұрын
Well, accuracy in color (temp) settings are quite bad on this light. Set as 5600K, going down to 10-15% of the power, the light outputs around 6400K, not 5600K anymore.

Amaran 200x has the same lux as the 300x. Also darn cheap and has better SSI than 300x

Wish influencers would be more honest there is NO way you would shit on this light after getting it sent to you for free. Give me a god damn break bro
@BenGleasonMedia Жыл бұрын
After being sent products over and over again to review, you start to get numb to the fact that it was "free!" HELL YEAH I would shit on a product I got for free! I don't care at all, I give my honest feedback, my honest opinion in every video! I've had several products sent to me that I ended up not making videos about because the product sucked! Obviously you didn't watch the entire video because I had several negatives about this light! And my genuine thoughts about it is that it's fine and nothing to write home about, but the price makes it a great deal!

Without a hard case, weather sealing, and integrated CRMX control, this light is laughable calling itself a "professional" light.
@shadowshapers Жыл бұрын
@arunr4103 The Arri Orbiter has a weatherproof housing, just not weatherproof ports, which is why they recommend a rain cover for it in more harsh conditions. The new Skypanel X is weather sealed and is a professional light. They took the lead from CreamSource Vortex8 which is a weather sealed fixture.
@recardosands9948 Жыл бұрын
1st this is not an Aputure killer. 2nd serious filmmakers need IP ratings, weather sealing etc. The info you failed to provide is exactly what most of us need to make a decision on this light...
@BenGleasonMedia Жыл бұрын
Welp, unfortunately it does not have weather sealing. Soooo.... I guess don't buy it 🤷♂
@recardosands9948 Жыл бұрын
@@BenGleasonMedia Its definitely a good fixture in the rt hands. I just think they're stretching it a bit by adding Pro to these fixtures. I think it's a good studio fixture. It's definitely not a rental house fixture. Aputure on the other hand has pro on their fixtures and their fixtures are on grip/electric rental trucks.
@joachimlucious10 ай бұрын
@@recardosands9948 aputure only holds the number one spot and are seen in rentals because they pioneered this budget led lights. Other manufacturers have caught up and are offering better price:quality. Also, only a select few high end, high output lights from aputure are weather sealed. Ps. Majority of my lights are from aputure.
