Congratulations on the Championship... makes all the hard work worthwhile. Now do you stay in Category 1 or do you have to move up?
@bengoyette8 жыл бұрын
I don't "have to" since there's no mandatory upgrade from Cat-1 to Pro, but I'll do it. Because I could only go backward in Cat-1 now, so I might as well try a new challenge. License upgrades are explained here: www.usacycling.org/mountain-bike-category-upgrades.htm

fantastic!!! did not see you drinking any water?? Do you do a lot of weight lifting??
@bengoyette8 жыл бұрын
I had a sneaky Camelbak hidden under my jersey. Same setup as Reno, the guy with a yellow jersey. It's a great setup for that course, because the technical single track sections are so long with nowhere to drink from a bottle. And no I don't weight lift at all -- I know I should though. I just do low cadence single speed rides on hills for strength.

how do you prepare for races and what advice do you have for people starting to do with races?
@bengoyette8 жыл бұрын
For a beginner race? In terms of gear, nutrition and fitness, there's nothing different to showing up for a Sunday ride. So no need to stress about that. The only different thing to prepare is to read all the race info. It sounds trivial, but knowing the course, your start time, the start location, is there a shorter start loop?, is there a feed zone?, etc. can make a huge difference to your stress level on race day. For sport races, I was following the advices from The Time-Crunched Cyclist book. It's really good if you don't have that much time to train.

I'm always amazed when I see you guys having to dodge cars in the middle of a race. Guess they don't close the roads for races.
