I am now 70 and this takes me back to my childhood when my love for opera was born. Played my dear dad's fabulous selection of music which included Beniamino Gigli endlessly. Thank you for sharing this album, feeling so nostalgic and missing my Dad terribly.

Hi! I grew up in a Brazilian village where there were a lot of Italian imigrants and although they did'nt speak Italian at all I miself get influenced by Italian language. So, and I don't know why, I got to love these songs.

What an extraordinary tenor. Today, we can not seem to come across tenors we have missed from the days of 50s and 60s and 70s. Gigli was to be mentioned as one of the greats many times. Thank you!

My Uncle Ted passed away on 28th July 1995, my Dad's older brother. Today my Dad would listern to Beniamino Gigli his brothers favourite tenor, my Dad's was Enrico and Mario, he did enjoy Gigli as well. I like to think there together now in paradise listening to the great tenors together, their wonderful music of all time, which will never ever be forgotten. 💫 🌈 xxxxx

Aural gold... effortless, wonderful... my soul soars when he hits those notes. What would I be, if I had a choice, a tenor, a classical pianist, a classical solo violinist... ALL of these but most of all... an opera tenor, a singer, the human voice, it speaks to our very souls!

🌻 Such memories coming flooding back.listening to Beniamino - what a magnificent tenor. Was only a littlie, but remember him well through the love my Mum had for this wonderful man. Nobody has come close to this beautiful tenor. Such a powerful, meaninful voice. A great tenor, one we'll never hear again quite like you Beniamino Gigli. Thank you so much for your voice and love of Opera. My dear Papa was Italian.⚘⚘⚘👍👍

Anne it is lovely to hear from a person of good taste in music...My first job & first pay I spent on a 12 inch 78 record of GIGLI singing Nesum Dorma I had heard it on a radio program called World Famous Tenors...I was so impressed with it, I bought Jussi Bjorling singing the same aria with my next pay...

Meu irmão, Rocha, é fã desse grande tenor. O Rocha, não tem a técnica de um Gigle, mas se tivesse ido para um conservatório, estudado e treinado a música lírica, teria sido um grande tenor. Valdeci Almeida, conhecido carinhosamente por ROCHA, hoje com seus 85 anos, ainda canta bonito, algumas canções líricas! Deus te abençoe, meu irmão, tenho orgulho de você, que sempre deu exemplo de uma pessoa de caráter e ilibada conduta de um homem de bem e de elevação espiritual!

As a 75 year old person I want you to know that very few of the “greats” managed to live the parts they sung, while they were singing. The Neapolitans came from Napoli (Naples), a very rough town that the country was ashamed of, hence the other Italians tried to ignore the starvation and the gang controlled living conditions, etc. Tthe residents really strongly felt the Neapolitan tragedy. And the singers could feel it over and over while they performed. Caruso was a simple family man with a voice from Heaven. And Gigli could also sing so expressively, even though his voice couldn’t come close to Caruso. There’s never been anyone who could hold a candle to Caruso. All the opera singers know. Napoli was both a pitiful and a magical place if you could sing.

First album I ever bought as a child was Gigli's Chenier on Angle records - my favorite tenor - so much heart and he sang till the day he died. Thank you!!! I needed a good cry! I'm George Savelli my dad was Gianni Savelli he's been gone for over 20 years now Studied with him for many years 72 now and still sing for the folks in nursing homes here in Vegas. Gigli had the most amazing cushion. Only DiStefano in his prime could compare. Thanks again!

Wonderful selection, although I have to say that #7 "Marta" is not an Italian but a Cuban song, and here he sings it in good Spanish. I believe Gigli was also born in Rome, but he also sings some Neopolitan classics here with the right feel. I remember reading in Pavarotti's autobiography how as a kid, he saw Gigli rehearsing for a concert in Modena and then went up to him and said he also wanted to be a tenor like him. Gigli encouraged the young boy to follow his dreams. When Pavarotti asked how much study it would take to be a great tenor, Gigli at his advanced age said "I am still studying to this day." And that really let an impression on the young Luciano. Quanto è meraviglioso. Grazie mille per aver reso più facile per tutti noi ascoltare il grande Beniamimo Gigli.

@@matejknezevic6989, it was an excerpt from one of TV programs. Later Pavarotti admitted that Giuseppe di Stefano voice made a bigger impression on young him than Gigli.

Bjorling is 's voice is more agile and doesn't strain

Lynda Dean lol. Bjorling is not even remotely as good as Gigli. Bjorling isn’t even on pavarotti’s level and Gigli is a class above pavarotti. Caruso and Gigli were maybe the two best tenors in history

@@tita4359, I prefer Bjorling over Gigli and Pavarotti. I used to be a Gigli fan in my younger years, but not any more. I never liked sweet and too flat Pavarotti's voice. Caruso, del Monaco, Bjorling, Lauri Volpi, young Bergonzi and Bulgarian Nicola Nikolov.

Também cresci ouvindo Beniamino Gigli, do qual meu pai tinha muitos discos de 78 rpm. Para quem teve essa experiência, a música erudita e o canto lírico se tornam definitivamente uma linha base. E é difícil aceitar qualquer coisa inferior.
