Even though we are strangers living in different countries, your videos provide a sense of warm familiarity. My heritage is Norwegian and there is a lot of overlap in how you decorate and the way my parents did when I was little. (My husband can’t quite grasp the Scandinavian NEED for candles all over!) My mother was born in Sweden and came to the US when she was five. I learned many Swedish traditions from her family. She got to return to Sweden for a six week visit in 1961. My dad had a business trip to Sweden. She brought back several Swedish things and one of them was a figure almost identical to the one you brought from your mother’s home. I love the way Christmas is celebrated in Sweden and have subscribed. Will try the heart ornament which has always baffled me. I make paper ornaments every year. They’re my favorite. And of course I use the straw ornaments. Looking forward to seeing more of you. This was my first time.

My mother died on Dec. 13 of colon cancer at age 70, my father on Jan. 7 of liver cancer at age 65. We cherish the good memories they gave their four daughters. We each kept sentimental items of theirs. I kept two of my mother's kitchen spoons, a bowl, and a utencil holder, for example. I'm using my father's handkerchiefs, my Nana's handkerchiefs, and pieces of my Memere's linen napkins to make patches to add to the back of log cabin quilts I'm making for my sisters (if they ever get finished!). I'm also using in those special patches pieces of quilting cotton with the words "only you" printed on them (my parent's favorite song). Such sweet little things add so much joy.

She certainly lived a very long life and to be able to live independently for so long is wonderful. It was so sudden as it turned out, and just the way she would have wanted. I have 4 siblings, 2 missed being there at the end, but such a precious time together. I too am a BC survivor and sleep has been an issue. 5 1/2 years later ( and the completion of medication) sleep has improved but still not guaranteed. Like you have tried lots of things and irony of irony it was my sleep issues that led to your channel which I would watch in the middle of the night sometimes. I've seen your videos from 6 months ago or so. I found you casually in KZbin one day and since then I´ve seen many videos of you and when I thought I've seen all, suddenly found out the one when you speak about your disease. Perphaps because one famous woman journalist from Spain releapsed and your video came to me ... I was devasted despite we are not friends but KZbin makes that possible, makes us connect in a special way because we follow people we want and, believe me, you have a sincere follower here. A few videos ago a man made a comment very special. He said he was a medium aged man and could't believe he was watching your videos and feeling sympathy for a woman so special like you. And you really are. In each video you show us the truth of that statement. You give me peace, I don't know why but it's true. So sorry for your mother passing but I am sure, as you said, this Christmas will be enjoyful in a different but beautiful way.

I have decided to utilize the Scandinavian approach and have been lighting white candles in the evening and it has made such a difference. It feels so warm and cozy. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my mother nine years ago. The firsts are hard; first holidays, first birthday, etc. It does get better, but the loss is always there. I love the paper heart! I actually knitted one a few years ago! I'm new to this channel, I'm looking forward to more videos!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. My mom is also 93 and also not doing well at this time. I expect to have a difficult and sad Christmas so thank you for sharing your lovely video. It reminded me to be sure to still put out the decorations that remind me of my childhood and my mom. Your videos always inspire me, but this one most especially at a difficult time.
