I've enjoyed many versions but never heard this, Britten's own recording. The shock is the dance like first movement ... almost Tchaikovsky in its rythms. Truly one of the great conductors ... in addition to his other God-given gifts.

In the Sentimental Saraband, I hear Bach's influence from the 2nd movement of Bach's Concerto for 2 violins. Still beautiful what Britten did with the tune and it's poignant variations. What a great homage.

Can I just say... as a violinist who has played this twice the second movement is WAY harder than it sounds. I was first chair and I struggled to keep the pizz up to tempo. RIP the rest of my section XD
@jackwilloughby239 Жыл бұрын
It's much easier to play with the thumb, holding the violin in your lap like a mandolinist, rather than with the forefinger. It's supposed to be a Simple Piece, and I believe violin was actually taught this way in the past: Learning to pluck the tune, In Tune, so you can see the actual distance between the notes and where your fingers need to be, learning the bow movements on Open strings, then combining the two.
@spagheddiesquash7 ай бұрын
i feel u 😭 i plucked with 2 fingers which helped a little but the room my ensemble performed it in was super cold.. i remember one time during rehearsal our conductor made us sing the piece. had a blast doing that.

Lovely of you to provide the score for conductors and orchestral musicians, (&ec.). It would, however, be so much more helpful were you to “scroll the score” at a rate that allows for musicians to “Read Ahead”. This enables more efficacious fingering, oft times waylaying potential intonation difficulties. Additionally, as concert masters and section principals, we very much appreciate the importance of procuring the score so that we can coordinate bowing styles and techniques, interrelating them across-the-board. Again, please allow me to thank you for your fine contribution to “A Musician’s Good Day“.

@schubertuk2 жыл бұрын
Yes - it could be a coincidence, but Arthur Wood's Barwick Green - the Archer's Theme - was composed in 1924 (from his "My Native Heath" suite) - 10 years BEFORE Britten released this. Arthur Wood's Barwick Green therefore may well have influenced this movement's 7-note second subject.
