LYRICS
John came home from war this morning
he found his wife she wasn't there
And a cold cold feeling crept through his bones
when he found a note at the bottom of the stairs
Said I'm in love with your brother I've found a preacher
I'm in love and I'm heading to the south
Boy you were fine but I've changed my mind
I'm boarding the next train out of town
John flew into a rage like thunder
he brought his fist down and he cracked the floor
He thought he broke bone
the way he screamed and he roared
and he headed right back out the door
said I'm going to find my brother
God damn this preacher I'm going to put him underneath a stone
So when the oak trees are so tall the
mountains feels small
they'll remember the wrath of my storm
John crashed in with his pistol crying
in the morning just before the dawn
He took out his knife
and he carved out the light
of a future in the eyes of the lord
Strung him on high
silhouetted in the sky
let the ravens pick him to the bone
When the law man came by
he turned down his eyes
not to gaze upon the brother of John
The station platform was empty and quiet
as she waited for a man who'd never show
When the noon day sun was high and cracking the ground
she felt a lump rise in her throat
John swept from behind
put a gun on her side
said baby you were why I came home
I won't take your life
but I want to look into your eyes
when you see I killed the man that you love

If the rest of your stuff is this good, you just stole the soul of a troubled man! Bound for glory and the door, 12 gauge in my hands, destined for the red clay lands of my ex lovers new man…. I won’t stop until his cold body’s on the floor!!! Not a day of sleep, until his lifeless, cold body’s on the floor. For only then the raven calls nevermore! I suddenly awaken, naked alone-empty bottle by the door. It seems this was all a fever dream, the raven had already called his nevermore. My wife long gone and I all alone, seems it was me all along. Naked, cold body on the floor…. 🤷‍♂️ made it up on the spot Lol this song brought forth a melody without a tune, a rhyme without a reason, or it’s just random shit from a crazy Kentuckian haha 😂 thanks man!!!

Just found this. This is incredibly good music. Soulful, dark and very, very skilful. Up until quite recently I have been 100% metal head (=I am from Finland after all) but lately I've been drawn to certain kinds of country/folk music. It is like J.R.R. Tolkien once said: "It was like discovering a wine-cellar filled with bottles of amazing wine of a kind and flavour never tasted before." I don't think it is even that odd - to me this very metal.

Incredible Simply incredible The urgent pace and swelling of the background track elegantly complements the story of the piece As well as the seemingly unhinged and manic vocals of the story teller ,either scarred by the events, or embellishing to show the madness of john as a man fresh from war, likely mentally broken beyond words, only to find his only comfort and drive stripped from him without remorse Simply stunning, a masterclass of musical story telling
