I don't do much exterior painting. I'm rebuilding deck stairs with railings and I picked up Sherwin Williams solid stain that was on sale to save money on my job. My buddy told me to check reviews and they're horrible. I was originally going to use Benjamin Moore and after doing some research, I'm going to return the other stuff. Thanks for the review. The high Build Moore guard is a killer paint and is a go to for many skilled painters. 75% of exterior work here is over cedar siding be it shingles or claps. Most re-paint work here has lots prep work there aren't many hardi plank homes here. Aura Satin line especially the white is a beautiful finish. Good review as usual.

Just wanted to say I love all your videos. Been slowly repainting our entire home here in Nor Cal, all with Aura. Thank God the BM Local Paint store here is giving me a Contractor rate (20 Gallons later). I will echo what a few people have said already, the re-coat time says 1 hour on all my paint. I've looked at all, matte, egg, and satin. All says 1 hour. This paint is absolutely amazing. Most of our home is Egg Shell, but I will say even their Matte is very washable. I wish you'd do one about painting stair railing. We have white railing and gonna paint them soon. I noticed you had one old video, but would love to see an updated one from a DIY prospective. Maybe brushing it with BM Advanced. Thanks again for all the videos, I love them! PS.... Because of you, I've also purchased the Xtend+Climb ladder with the ladder aid pro. I had a bad experience with Aura. I was doing a sunset orange over a not very dark beige. My supplier suggest Aura to make sure it covered in 1 coat. It took 3 coats. I was cursing and swearing on the 3rd coat as I worked till midnight to get it done. I never used Aura again. I'll stick with their Regal line, which has never failed me yet. To be clear, I am a professional and I know how to paint. It was the product, not me. 😉

Can you do a video on painting vinyl siding? Lots of confusion on it. For example painting with dark colors cause warping. People think vinyl can't be painted and cheaper than buying new siding.
@Idahopainter3 жыл бұрын
We paint it all the time. Just use vinyl safe colors.
@MorryB3 жыл бұрын
@John: this is what it says on the Aura datasheet: "Do not paint vinyl with any color darker than the original color or having a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of less than 55 unless it is in the Benjamin Moore approved Colors for Vinyl palette and comports with the specific vinyl manufacturer guidelines when making the color selection and painting. Otherwise, the color will absorb more heat, possibly causing the siding to warp, resulting in additional repairs and expenses. "

BM has great coverage, it looks good and is durable, plus has excellent color retention even in dark colors. I may never go back to Ben Moore, I am going to paint with Sherwin Williams on exterior of home and see how it goes. Going to use their best exterior. I used Aura on exterior last time, white semi gloss was beautiful, the other colors faded and trim paint did not fare well. Really not impressed based on how much money I paid.
@joshsawyer26223 жыл бұрын
I love Benjamin Moore paints and stains but this is my least favorite of all of them. IMHO it is overpriced and overkill on the majority of the jobs I do. It requires too much of an application learning curve and can be tricky for people who haven’t used it before. It is definitely not a pick up and go paint. Spraying it might be totally different than your typical cut and roll application. On interior, if you cut in a room first and then come back into your cut lines while rolling the fields it can pull the paint where you cut in right off the wall. I doubt that will happen every time but it has happened to me. Also because it dries so fast it coagulates on your brushes, cut pots, and roller trays much faster which then separates onto the roller and gets on the wall so you’re wasting time picking paint boogers off the wall and changing out roller covers and tray liners. Regal Select interior and exterior paints are just as good and less expensive. They are much more user friendly, provide excellent coverage, durability, washability and have the same mildew resistant and anti microbial properties as Aura. This is all just one painters experience though. Again...glad to see you trying out and promoting more Benjamin Moore products on your channel. Must have gotten tired of SW constantly reformulating everything 😜
@bruceheiland62373 жыл бұрын
Used airless and aura, both my 1st on a home, had no problems at all.
@ILruffian3 жыл бұрын
Spot on. Aura interior has a big learning curve. You need to let the cuts dry fully before you roll. No wet edge technique. And the drying on brushes/rollers is also spot on. That can be mitigated by use of the Benjamin Moore Extender (BM version of Floetrol). Aura interior is a great paint. But it needs Extender and special technique.
@grislyflatlander94053 жыл бұрын
Aura for trim Regal for siding and walls for all the reasons you stated.
@patrickcullen27143 жыл бұрын
With the aura you have to brush it, let it dry and then roll it. You can actually do the reverse because it's such a good paint but the key is you can't brush it in and then roll it 20 minutes later
