His voice is interchangeable with Ric Ocasek's voice which is incredible. Just listen to the way he sings this song and then think of how similar the approach is to something like Magic.

@@anderson088 not so much, Brian. Not to the trained ear. Their voices, inflexion, style, phrasing miles apart. Ben's voice had a much broader range, especially in the lower ranges.

As a Cars fan & especially an appreciative fan of the late Benjamin Orr. I came across this unusual song. Being of the same generation as all the band members of the Cars I decided to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane with all the Covid lockdowns. In doing so I have just discovered this amazing song sung by the versatile Benjamin Orr. It’s something so different compared to all the other gems this talented man gave us, over the years, with his beautiful & melodic voice. It’s a difficult song to sing with its hypnotic melody. Therefore, I can appreciate it all the more. The late Ric Ocasek said he always gave the difficult songs to Ben to sing as he had the ability to master them with ease. As usual Ben rose to the occasion. A very talented man blessed with mesmerizing charisma & a lovely face one never grew tired of looking at. Sadly, he died way too young. The same age my late husband died of Prostate Cancer. A cruel & dreadful disease. Thank you for the music - for that lives on.

As far as I know, there is no video recording of Benjamin Orr performing "This Could Be Love" with The Cars. I used images of Benjamin Orr performing "Drive" and paired them with the audio of "This Could Be Love" in order for fans to have access to this music, but with a more interesting video component than just still photos. They had the advantage of being able to work out their stuff BEFORE they became famous, not that there was a whole lot of "stuff". I just mean that they were extremely mature and experienced by the time they broke out, and that they all approached the project of The Cars with a great deal of professionalism. Do I think they were choir boys? No. Do I think they were sublime virtuosi? Yes, without a doubt.

I couldn't agree with you more. Their seeming to "spring forth fully formed" is truly amazing. However (not to destroy the illusion because I do think there is an aura of true perfection about them) they did pay their dues and put in alot of work before The Cars. Ric and Ben had about 10 years on many of their "new wave" contemporaries.

@@joan-annebross9217 And Elliot was the baby! :) But yeah I was really into 80's new wave as a teenager and from reading Smash Hits I remember a lot of them were born in like 1960, 61, etc. Some were older than that of course but I'd say they probably averaged about 10 to 13 years older in Ben's case and 13 to 16 in Ric's. Simon Le Bon was born in 1958 and even that young he seemed to one of the "older" ones so Ric and Ben in particular were definitely outliers. :) Except maybe for The Police - Andy Summers was born in 1942 so he was even older than Ric, and Sting and Stewart were around Greg and Elliot's ages.

Sorry, but this song should not be listed under Benjamin Orr. This is a Ric Ocasek composition performed by the Cars with Ben on lead vocal. Ben was great but credit needs to given where due, not just handed out because you like a guy.
