Omg, I'm right there with you all!! It just so happened Live Aid set up a KZbin page and has started showing clips from the JFK stadium performances, and I saw The Cars but this beautiful Adonis looking man in the thumbnail of the song "Bye-Bye Love" (and he sounded as sweet as he looked🤤😍🤸‍♀️😘) and I'm like 'who is that?!?' Mind you I grew up on The Cars but I was only twelve in '85, bless my mom for having tons of albums!! But I always thought it was Ocasek singing, I am not fond of him I can't put my finger on it but there's just something ominous about him in correlation to Ben Orr... Why couldn't he just let Ben be the full-time lead singer, that's what I think confused a lot of us. Rest easy, Mr. Orr, hope to see you in the next life as you are still affecting us all in this one in a great way...👼🏼

I don't think for a minute that this video set up was Ben's idea but he seemed to be a really good sport about it. Ben was actually a very quiet unassuming guy so I'm sure her would have preferred to not have all the attention on him. It was the 80's and everyone did this kind of thing. Ben was so gorgeous he could have stood there in a garbage bag and looked better than any man has a right to look. And that voice?? What can you say? Perfection. 17 years later and I still miss him. RIP beautiful soul.

I love Ben, but he kinda looks a little lost in this video without a bass in his hands. If he could have re-shot this video singing and playing bass/guitar, I think it would have been much more popular at the time. This is what I thought back then as a young person seeing it on mtv as well as seeing it again for the first time in 30 years. Ben didn’t have to try to be hot. He never had to try hard at music either. He was just naturally gifted at both.

Never saw Ben Hold the mic. That's it. He is a dignified performer. The director of this video didn't do him justice. No way I'd allow him to not be himself. This was some directive to be "current" but it didn't ring true because it was much like the Billy Squire video Rock me tonight - that had him dancing around, when he was a straight up Rock guy. Just have Ben at the mic as he's performed his entire adult life.

So sad that with his solo album he became a victim of the mid-eighties. I like the dark haired, gentle monster look of ‘78-‘79 best along with the more dark wave stylings of Moving in Stereo, Cruiser than this ultra-pop sound where his voice is more mid-range than his luscious baritone, which was his ultimate strength as a singer. Whoever produced this video did a huge disservice to Benjamin, imo.

I have good news for those of us who thought that Ben's dancing in this video was unnecessary and creepy. Stumbled upon this. Check out Live On Friday's, Shoo Be Doo &Gimme Some Slack. This is a very early video maybe 1979 but Ric is dancing around and boy is it cringe worthy. Very nerdy and creepy. So worth a look and a good laugh!!

i think ben would have been better standing behind his bass...this song reminds me of beat so lonely by charlie sexton...I know during this time he was with this girlfreind who helped him write the lyrics of the lace album..who is to say what effect that relationship had on him at that time...at any rate..im 35 and a bass player and in 2009 i want to get some sort of ben tribute out..i even live in his birth town and there is no remembrance of him here...but i remember..RIP ben

Okay, so maybe not the best dance moves, BUT Ben does have rhythm, and that's what really counts ~ am I right, ladies?? ;) I don't think he looks too uncomfortable; we're just not used to him being without his bass guitar in front of him. If you notice, in lots of CARS videos, he "rocks" back & forth this way too, but with his guitar. (I like that!) ...great song, and David Robinson and Greg Hawkes look pretty sweet too!!!

I have no doubt Ben’s longtime gf Diane Gray Page had input on this video 😂 She wrote the lyrics with him on the Lace album. Notice the girls in this vid are not dressed sexy at all like any of the other Cars vids. Probably the girls were filmed in a different location or when Ben wasn’t there 😂 she was 40 & so was Ben when this came out. She’s like Yoko Ono with the Beatles.
