Team Wild's Air Power: International big game airgun hunter Ian Harford gets out onto the range to assess the accuracy and ballistic performance of the Benjamin Rogue .357 big bore air rifle ready for his big game hunting adventure to the USA, where he'll be taking feral hogs, deer and hopefully a few other exotic game animals along the way.

Well done following your shooting hobby in the UK. Public opinion, directed by the nanny Government must make it almost impossible. Having left the UK many years ago I can imagine the grief and scorn you get from people over there. Don't give up.

Good point, there will always be situations which suit certain types of gun better than others. I've often used air rifles in more built up areas. However these rifles are very limited in terms of ballistic options and number of shots etc. plus they're very expensive , so most people would be better off with a conventional rifle, in most circumstances.

Thanks so very much for this good data & demo. U don't owe us a thing, but I hope that someone else who has a chrony can show us what a 190 grain Hunter's Supply pellet will deliver in velocity & foot pounds. I am wondering if the lower velocity of the heavier pellet will still have more foot pounds.

A 145-grain, .357" diameter bullet at ~800 feet per second is on par with a standard .38 Special (which also uses a .357" diameter bullet, and is available with 145-grain bullets, though the traditional bullet weight is 158 grains) fired from a revolver with a 2" barrel (i.e., a "snub-nose .38").

To the people that don't get it this gun is very quiet and it's not subject to all the laws of a regular firearm. Depending on where you live that is a huge plus.

pockets: I saw the claim that those round balls have the most accurate trajectory of any ammo in the Rogue. I would like to see a chrony with them & a calculation of the foot pounds. Can you load up 6 slots in the clip with 12 balls? Now I have had the 190 grain pellet in my hand, & it is indeed some hunk of lead.

Only a dollar per shot too. I would go PCP in a heart beat, but the equipment you need to recharge the thing is as, sometimes more expensive, than the gun itself. Can't argue it hits hard and accurate.

I am so envious. My hatsan sniper has a maximum of around 30 fp of muzzle energy. It can hit a target the size 1 x 1 meters at about 200 yards. Still it is no hunting rifle. I believe it could scare away warthogs at best. Mostly because of the sound.

If the Evanix Conquest were full auto, I wud prefer it, as u can shoot so many more shots. The Conquest is only about 1/2 the power of the Rogue, but if it were full auto, that might compensate. U could let loose a volley of 3 shoots at once. However, the importer apparently has dumbed down the Conquest to semi-auto.

I love this rifle. It basically is firing a 146-gr 9mm bullet at 700fps. That's only about 200fps less than a 9mm load in a handgun used in IPSC competition. Impressive to say the least. However, and this is the deal breaker for me, for $1000, I'd much rather buy an AR-15. Good shooting though. Keep up the good work.

It is possible but to say they are silenced is an over statement. They are certainly much quieter than a normal shotgun. I have only used a silenced .410 shotgun which was very quiet. You can use subsonic shotgun ammo which further reduces the noise.

I'm guessing you're American. In England we generally say bore not gauge but plenty of people also call them 12 gauges, myself included from time to time. Are you allowed moderated/silenced shotguns where you live? A company called hushpower make silenced shotguns included a Mossberg 500 pump action. They're a good option in more built up areas where you don't want to cause to much noise. Well done protecting your puppy, must have been quite a struggle with a pit bull!

You don'need a licence for knives, bowes, axes etc. although I'm sure there are a lot of lefties in this country who would like to change that. We're not allowed to hunt with bowes though, apart from fish I think. I like watching bow hunting videos from the states, would love to come across and give it ago because I've had a bow since I was about 5 years old but can't hunt with it.

1987 I don't know what the law is on silenced shotguns. Is it really possible to silence a shotgun? I'll need to look into that, as hard to believe as it is to me. That would be like trying to silence your rag bone man, wouldn't it? (I lived in Manchester for 2 years.) Once I got ahold of that neck chain (from the back of the dog) and twisted it, I just could not let go.

Couple of thoughts. One, have you laid on a translator who can handle the Texan to English duties? If not, I can. :D Second, (and seriously) a big hogs gristle plate can shrug off even #1 buckshot, so be careful of the "behind the shoulder" shot. (personal experience) I'd vote for ear to ear shots on the hogs.

I'm not trying to stop people or discourage them from using air rifles. I think they are interesting and impressive, but I wouldn't want one. You're clearly the expert at back yard pit bull hunting so if you say a machete would do the job I believe you ;) Think I'd choose to you a moderated 12 bore but I don't know if they're legal where you are?

What is the range of the Rogue? Base on the settings of the EPiC panel, the Rogue is capable of taking prairie dog-sized game past 100 yards and coyotes up to 75 yards.

1987: I didn't know it was a pit bull when I saved my puppy & killed it. Fortunately for me, it had a heavy steel chain around its neck, which I grabbed & choked. & there was a stream nearby where I could drown the dog. When the cops came, they told me it was a pit! 12 bore? you mean a 12 gauge shot gun? I can't shoot that in the city under normal circumstances. My choice wud be a Saiga, or for backyard dog protection a double barreled coach gun. But I don't want to get involved w/ cops.

Both informative and surprising: It's powerful enough to legally hunt rabbit, mink and gulls with in Sweden but not anything larger. Disappointing because that means I probably won't get to shoot one myself.

1987, Do you need a license for a machete in England? Long bow? Robin Hood cudgel? I mean if RH could beat old Guy of Gisbourne with a long stick, couldn't he take out a pit bull the same way?

That sucks! I purchased my .357 Rogue and tried to buy an extra clip 6 months later and it was discontinued! I was shocked. The rifle is a dream to shoot with great accuracy out to 60 yards. I bought a Bulldog 2 years ago. It's fun to shoot and easy to handle but not near as accurate as my Rogue. Still enjoy watching these utubes! Parker County Texas

Well, if you went hunting w/ an air rifle, to me it would be becs u are an enthusiast for the air gun or like novelty. But for shooting in a city where you can't use a firearm, but you can shoot an air gun, what else will you do? Yes, u cud use a machete out in the yard to subdue a pit bull (but don't miss with your swing).

127ft/lbs KE is quite weak for a big game(especially big hog). Try shooting a real mature boar in the shoulder blade with that thing, your bullet is just going to explode and wound the animal.
@Thunkful2
@Thunkful2 11 жыл бұрын
But suppose you need to kill an animal in a city where it is illegal to fire a firearm? Where I live things cud get sticky w/ the cops if I fired a gun; but air rifles are legal. This is the only repeating air rifle I know of that I wud want to use vs a pit bull who had attacked my dog in my yard.
