@@BenLevin INice video. To me what you played was not jazz. It had some chords from jazz but was not played like jazz. To me it sounded more like the type of music Chon does, rock using some jazz chords. It would be interesting to hear you do a video on that style. It hasn't really been named yet. I would say Yvette Young, Charlie Robbins, Tim Henson, Manuel Gardner Fernandes, Ichika, Plini somewhat are other examples. Have you checked out Charlie Robbins? This whole style sounds very new. I'm not sure if it's a trend that will pass but that Polyphia piece G.O.A.T is great, some of Ichika very melodic, Manuel Gardner Fernandes with some great rhythmic muting. You've probably heard most of these players in this unnamed style. Each one has unique personal things they do. I would call it a rhythmic soling approach with patterns but at the same time Ichika is so melodic. It's sort of rhythm and melody combined, very integrated. Pretty major chords combined with some metal elements in the rhythm. Anyway a question about that gating effect. Is that used in any pop music? Also can it be done in tempo and out of tempo also? I wonder what the difference would sound like and I'm not sure what your version was. What I mean is this. For instance say instead of silence there was a drum track that is playing in background, snare and kick. The guitar triggers a hi- hat. In one scenario as soon as you hit the string the hi-hat which is a pre recorded track in the same tempo as the drum track is only in sync with the backing drums if you play the guitar note at the right time on the downbeat and keep playing continuously. In a different version when you play the guitar it merely shuts on and off the volume of the hi-hat track which is directly linked to the drum track and it doesn't matter if you play the first note on the guitar on an upbeat in relation to the drum track, the tom track won't play at exactly the same time in that case. It will only hit perfectly with the drum track because it's always in sync with it, the guitar is just turning that track volume on and off and will stay on as long as you are playing.

Many years ago I had a similar though -- what does it take to write a joke? OK, let me try. This is my favorite of what I came up with that night. A guy goes to the doctor because he isn't feeling well. The doctor asks questions, can't figure out the problem, so he collects specimens and has them sent to the lab. A few days later the patient receives a call from the doctor. Doctor: OK, I got the lab results back. Do you want the bad news or the worse news? Patient: What is the bad news? Doctor: We found blood in your urine. Patient: Wow, OK, what is the worse news? Doctor: It isn't your blood.

I HAD to pause at 3:35 to just express the level of bliss I feel to know there is a human being in the world...currently alive, who understands music and makes sounds in a way that speaks directly to how I hear/know/understand/experience/write/play music. I'm so glad Ben even exists. Keep making things made out of sound and vision...maybe even throw others senses in. Why not? You(Ben) can do _anything_ ...I'm basically convinced of that by now. That solo around the 3:00 mark hit hard....something about it. Something about your approach to music itself. I feel like that's the thing I'm picking up from you that is so interesting.

Most things people describe as "trippy" I'd say you have no idea what you're talking about, but Ben Levin's content really does have a particular flavor of joyful absurdity that is (in my experience at least) core to the psychedelic experience. That said, assuming you don't have schizophrenia or similar disorders, I recommend trying psychedelics at least once. You'll gain an appreciation for the absurdity of this universe that never really goes away.
