This vintage railway film, produced in November 1970, covers the transition from semaphore to colour light signalling, the consolidation of signal boxes and the upgrading of points of the North Kent Lines between 1967-1970, showing how the entire North Kent Loops from Dartford to London Bridge could be controlled from one Signalling centre in Dartford .

The days when the railway actually used trains to deliver all the new lineside signalling equipment and to recover the old. Outrageous!!

After seeing this film, I have nothing but admiration for all the workers ,technicians and signalling staff . That wiring job looked like spaghetti junction to me . Nuff respects to em . -bud the painter -

When you first see the wiring it is daunting. It takes some time to learn how to read the circuit diagrams and slowly over the years you get to know how everything goes together. A job where there is always something new to learn as things are constantly developing. Today a huge amount of this type of equipment is still in use along with the new digital electronic systems.

Its amazing in the whole history of human work you can spot a manager a mile away. 1 their generally better dressed, 2 always carrying something paper / clipboard and 3 constantly delaying whatever's been done.

Note the high viz vests on the managers while the laborers aren’t even wearing shirts much less PPE.

Love how the concrete troughs are thrown down, obviously weren't accountable for any damages.

Those concrete troughs were far tougher than you'd think. They are also far heavier than you imagine. They say 220 lbs, that 100kg! How carefully would you lay that down?

Whereas I love the subject matter of the Bennett Brook railway postings, I wondered if the prints which are being digitised are really as soft as the posted video. I would understand if the originals were standard 8mm but I would assume they are at least 16mm if not 35mm. I still take super 8 cine film (using a Leicina Special camera) and they seem a lot sharper. Is it the digitisation process which causes the loss in definition?

I've seen a few of these transport films on other channels before, so it could be from screen recordings of those before they were removed.

Another marvelous video ☺️ . As for the quality of the videos , if they're ripped from VHS tapes the Res is only going to be 240 / 250 lines regardless of how you digitised them . And no point in trying to use AI to upscale them believe me I've tried to upscale many a low Res video and the results are far from impressive

" . . . sending messages by bell codes, which is a very time consuming process." THAT is a bloody lie - and yes, I HAVE worked in boxes where trains were offered and accepted using block bells.

General awareness of asbestosis didn’t really start until the 70’s. According to Wikipedia, the asbestos industry had been aware of the dangers since the 1930s, but had been slow to act.
