Custom made WISHBONES - 1932 FORD FRAME (Roadster Build)

On this episode we adapt a set of stock 1936 wishbones with a model A ball mount to create a stock looking wishbone for our 1932 frame. Unfortunately we did not have a stock 1932 set to bolt in so we used what we had in the work shop and the result is exactly what we were after. The front end is now mocked up and we can figure out our steering and pedal assembly. Another step closer!

I like 35/36 wishbones. The front knuckles are such that they have the most potential tie rod clearance when running a dropped axle.

Thanks for the video. My 53 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup's front axle was made to fly and safely return to earth by Pete and Jakes and Superbell. I't a 4" drop oval tube axle. The spindles are early Ford. It's a beefed up early Ford roadster axle set up for leaf springs. I went with the Ford front axle because they just look nicer. I had to put Heidts spindle pins in the Ford spindle so I could mount my 12.88" 6 piston Wilwood brakes and make caliper brackets. I like the tip on the leaf spring tune up. Thank you for your time.

Jordan - Have you tried soaking the drums & hub in a bucket of Vinegar for a few days - or trying the electrolysis method. Washing soda in water and a piece of plate as an anode hooked up to a 7 Amp battery charger. Might just free everyting up and remove the rust without dinting or distorting the drums and wont hurt the spindles either

Great job! I just finished that exact job converting my '37 wishbones to fit a '32 axel to live under my '35 coupe. Almost all the same steps you did except, I was able to tweak my spring perch a touch and all slipped into place like it belonged. We do what we can with what we have.

Hello Jordan. These jobs are very familiar to me. Some observations, which I imagine you already know, but some might not. The Model A yoke you have might be helping with the clearance at the sump near the starter. It has a slight drop which the 32 does not have. The 37 type bones you have will give you an advantage as they are raised relative to the axle and will give better clearance with the track rod passing underneath. This is a big problem if using 37 type spindles and a 32 wishbone, so the setup you have is very good from that point of view. Dropped axles make it worse. The front drums will not be familiar to any USA viewers that type were only used in non USA markets and are one piece. Not 100% sure on this, just an opinion I have formed. I think your front spring is Model A. 32s have 7/8" eyes as stock and often 3/4" as aftermarket. You might be better off keeping the Model A perches as I think it will all match up if you are using Model A shackles. If the eyes are not 3/4" you might have to do some adaptation to use the 32 perches. Shame you realised the bosses might want machining down after you welded it all together! It would have been an easier setup if still in bits. I'm sure you will sort it all out, It's what you do! I don't know if you would be interested or not but I did quite a detailed build series on my 32 Sedan, including building up the front end which involved building up worn perches and remachining. All good fun stuff. Ok, all the best, Mart from Mart's Garage in England.

G'day Tim, firstly, we really appreciate your support from the early days as a channel member. We are revamping our membership offer slightly. We will not be offering the $5 level, instead we are making 1 level with lots of perks, which will be $9.99. Each member will receive a special Bennetts brass medallion with their membership number stamped on the back. We would like to send you one of these for your support of the channel regardless. No pressure at all to sign up for the new membership level, but we think you will get lots of value from it. Please email us your postal address: info@bennettscustoms.com.au Cheers

I'm building a 26 roadster. I have a place I can choose any year ford parts I want to use. Frames axles etc. Just want to build a pretty mild car but lowered a bit. What chassis a front axle would you start with? If you need any parts I can check with my guy and don't mind paying for shipping from north dakota I can check for you. Great channel! Thanks for sharing
