Jordan great job. I believe if you put aluminium up against steel you can get an electrolysis reaction unless it is well insulated, protected from metal to metal surface between the inner and outer skin on the trunk lid. It might be better to use a zinc silicate coating on the undersides to prevent the rust due to water ingress through the louvers.

Yes your right, I was going to paint it and insulate the mounting points but easier to leave out.

@@bennettscustomsco since the louvers are strictly a cosmetic feature could you adhere a rubber or vinyl sheet on the underside. They have shower floor membranes that are tough and durable. Just a thought.

First cut is the deepest...or rather first louvre cut was the kinda nervous looking relief/achievment? 100% get that. Top job, you gotta be happy with that effort. Very cool. Never done TIG, never gets old watching it...one day I'll study up on it properly & try it. Very cool.

Looks excellent. I have mine as a boot but now I’m wondering if it would clear as a dicky seat. But then I don’t have a handle. So maybe I could use a cable pull. Anyway I think that’s the right decision to go for louvers. You can always get another trunk lid for a plane Jane look. Like changing wheels. Take care. Tim.

Yeah I agree with you on the sheet between. Just wanted to speak to dissimilar metal though. If you coat the aluminum it may help with that. Wouldn't want to give it a chance to rot what you spent time fixing.

You might try KBS rust preventive coatings it seems to be superior to Por15. I've used both and really think the KBS is a better option. Thanks for what you are doing. I really enjoy your work and videos to document and share with the rest of us DYI hotroders..

I wasn’t sold on the louvers untiI I saw them. Great look, put it in a bag, I’ll take it! Aluminum liner though???Without a barrier in the sandwich aren’t you inviting dissimilar metal corrosion? Knowing you I’ll bet you have some magic trick for that.
@bennettscustomsco

I decided to leave it out, I thought to clean it out would be a lot easier with no barriers or corrosion S

Gr8 job I like the louvered look. I've watched your reverse spring eye a couple of times. I would like to lower the back of my 70 mustang do you think the springs would react the same and maybe bend every couple of inches I could lower it myself? Thanks for any help.
@bennettscustomsco
@bennettscustomsco Жыл бұрын
Great question. A newer style spring might be harder to do so but also might be worth checking in with a spring shop? Or a simple setup with a small lowering block?

@@bennettscustomsco thanks for getting back to me. I have been to a hotrod shop in Brisbane they said bring it in we'll have look. I went to a local spring shop and had them reset but, a few hundred dollars latter, there basically the same height, they said it happens sometimes bring them in... more money... I'm pretty sure I can't use lowering blocks in QLD. I don't have access to spare springs I'd have to buy some. Which... money. Circle around to my question. Anyway thanks again love your videos.

Would have liked more detail on the louver layout, alignment keeping lines straight etc.🤷‍♂️
@bennettscustomsco
@bennettscustomsco Жыл бұрын
Layout is what ever to desire. As long as there’s no contact with the punch it’s self, I always like a bit more space between than others. Bit more breathing room. On traditional punch setups I tend to use a straight edge on everyone one but this setup the Hydrolics are so accurate each time making the them consistent the whole way.

I don't get the louvers. Why put holes in something you might want to store things in? I get in a hood to let out heat put why in a trunk? How bout louvers in the top?😂
@timferriss905
@timferriss905 Жыл бұрын
It comes from racing. People thought that louvers in the trunk would help speed by letting trapped air run through the body. Correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe someone has a different take on it.?

Some of the racers eliminated the radiator in the front to make it more streamlined and put it in the truck. Louvers would let it breathe and help keep it cool.
