He’s a good guy and talks a lot of sense. I live on the Isle of Man so I’ve seen a bit of the TT. A few years ago it was a rainy day for the super bike or senior race. Some of the riders wanted to go racing in the rain but John didn’t. When asked by the media he said “You get some bold riders, you get some old riders. But you don’t get many old bold riders”. Quality!

As an America watching from of all places, Wichita Ks; I really admire this man. I know most the names of the top tier riders, somehow I find him the one who I would most likely want to be around. Always cheerful and amazingly humble. I would feel totally comfortable sitting with him over a nice dinner. I feel like I could converse with him for hours and never be made to feel out of place. I’m sure he and I could share plenty of stories about motocross. It was a huge passion of mine for a good number of years. Now days I ride a sportbike at the crazy age of 63.

He's been quoted as saying he learned his approach to the TT from Joey when he was his teammate at Vimto Honda. (When Joey won his third triple aged 49) Joey followed the old endurance racing adage of 'win at the slowest possible speed'
