It's a quirk of Japanese culture that gets lost in the translation because of how dependent on context the language is (it also depends, I think, on which form of "I'm sorry" she used, as there are multiple forms with different uses). I think there's still something wrong with the context, but this is in the technical specifics that go even beyond my knowledge, so I don't want to try and go into more detail.

Yup, it's so bad that Sage abandoned the review around 2 minutes before it ended. Right when proto-Jubei is about to battle the clan, the Princess intervenes, but she suddenly coughs up blood and collapses, having been poisoned. Then proto-Jubei walks away without collecting his reward, saying some bullshit proverb about throwing a stone at a stray dog. Proto-Jubei and not-Hasselhoff meet, telling each other they feel of death before walking their separate ways. End credits. That's about it.

True story: I was hosting a film night where my friends brought The Room and Blade Runner with them (complete with a postcard signed by Wiseau himself) and I decided that, as we had about an hour to kill afterwards, I'd break out a random OAV I'd bought ages ago... Sword For Truth. We all went into it blind, and while we knew it'd probably be schlock, it was schlock beyond our wildest dreams. One of my friends tried to riff on it - at the point shown in 13:44, he went "Wanna fuck me?"... as was astounded , like our own dear Bennett, at being outplayed by the "movie" itself. Now I just need to get them to watch Vampire Wars... as well as all the other OAVs I own, some of which I might have bought recently, for the very purpose of watching them with my friends...

I've seen stock characters like Proto-Jubei many times across multiple media. You know characters who show no emotions and often monotonous. When done right they can be a pretty badass/likable character. Proto-Jubei has got to be the most boring examples I've ever seen in my life.

People say a lot of anime are bad for different things, but I don't think they quite understand. Sword for Truth (and Violence Jack Harlem Bomber) is an anime that I really can't find a single redeeming factor for. There isn't any quality in this, the animation is horrible, the concept is uninteresting, most of the spoken dialogue is vague or badly delivered, and I haven't even began talking about the English dub. The entire anime moves at a snail's pace anyway. It's pathetically boring. It's bad enough that it's not entertaining but I really don't understand how anyone could sit through this anime, unless its for the spirit of finishing it and moving on. Comparing this to Ninja Scroll is like comparing ice cream and cake to urine and fecal matter. I believe that Sword for Truth is the very bottom of the barrel and at the very least, it's an anime I struggle to call as such and should be forgotten. Well, that's how I feel at least...
