Great lyricism. He gives the pieces a very nocturnal quality, full of mystique.

I'm working on these pieces at the moment, so I've been listening to many recordings of them, old and new... And it is a shame to realize how the art of piano playing went down in the past fifty years...If one listen to this and afterwards to the recording of Martha Argerich, considered to be "fantastic" by so many people (and I like her playing a lot), one realizes that she tries hard, and does what she can, but that is not even half what this man acomplishes here! His In der Nacht is just something else! hers may be fast, passionate, etc... but... plain! His, on the contrary, is true Schumann's poetry! Fantastic!!!

Moiseiwitsch along with the likes of Rachmaninov, Horowitz, Cortot and Freidman represented the so called ''Golden Age''of virtuoso pianists. I agree with you up to a point, however there are some outstanding young pianists today with many being female, I suggest you listen to Dinara Klinton and Zlata Chocheiva if you have'nt already. The latters recording of the Chopin Etudes is truly fabulous.

I agree with you entirely! Take the best century of great pianism I would suggest 1830 to 1930, give or take a few exceptions like Rach. & Horowitz.

I just came from listening to Argerich's rendition. (Oy) Thank you for this beautiful poetry. It makes so much sense!

Argerich mostly plays this set as 'perpetuum mobile'. Moiseiwitsch, on the contrary, delivered a masterpiece.

I have been listening to many versions of this here and rate this and the versions by Cortot and Bachaus as the three best.

Moiseiwitsch was one of Rachmaninoff's (two) pianists he most admired. The other being Hoffman.

He is the Schumann player par excellence. In his hands this ceases to be mere romantic programme music.

This is great but my all time favourite performance mentioned previously is Rubinstein from 1961. I also like the Cortot.
