YAYY YAY YAY, produced by her and nellee hooper, this album is often credited for bringing electronic music and house music into the mainstream (you can hear in the following years how this influenced music after, of course always ahead of her time) and as one of the best 90s albums and debut albums, really excited to see how u react to this, this isn’t her first album also, but is her first as solo artist (not including björk 1977) edit: on venus reaction and it’s kind of emotional to see people hear this song, it’s the first song of hers I ever heard as a kid and she changed my life, i also love what you’re saying about it being a time capsule, i agree, she was going to lots of uk underground clubs and living in the uk at this time

It is her first solo project and it was soooo innovator for the 90's that it is recognized as top 10 of the 1000 albums that changed music and deserves to be listened. her debut was long long time ago with her self titled folk album, released when she was eleven. after this she was member of different punk bands, "rokk í reykjavík"-documentary be reccomended at this point. after that she was member of the sugar cubes and gained international success. she recorded a jazz album, gling-gló. so, when debut released she was already for years on stage. and still, on most of her concerts, she plays songs from debut, always dressed into the current sound. "come to me" is a good example for it. her songs never get old or boring. most recently her work got more complex, more complicated, thats why i like her older records a bit more because everything comes so easy.

Or better, u should also react to the movie Dancer in the Dark (Selmasongs is the soundtrack to it), only one KZbinr had reacted to it if I’m correct. Bjork’s performance in it is the most impressive one among all the actresses I’ve seen, n she actually won the best actress award in the Cannes festival (the film also won the best film award).

Nellee Hooper is a great British producer and collaborator of Bjork´s and they both together created some MAGICAL moments in music. Did you know Madonna after listening to this album, enlisted Neellee Hooper for her BedTimes Story album? She always listens to what´s new and unique and goes after the producers... Actually, Bjork co-wrote the song Bedtime Stories with Neelle Hooper and in an interview, a reporter asked Bjork "how was it working with Madonna?!!" (all excited) and Bjor (very casually said) "I actually didn´t know the song was for her, my friend Nellee Hooper just asked me for a favor and I did it"

For a very very quick touchstone on Nellee Hooper, check out Soul II Soul's "Back to Life" from 1989, which was such a big deal it was even featured in the London Olympics in 2012, and it's still glorious Human Behaviour had a stunning couple of remixes by Underworld several years before they made it SO big with Born Slippy - the main remix is ace but Underworld Dub 2 is so growly, it's criminal it wasn't on the single Venus As A Boy's music video was inspired by a bit of incredibly gross hardcore porn from the 1920s. It also had a much tidier RnB ballad version done by Simply Red (7" Dream mix/Anglo-American Extension), if you found the original a bit too odd. The strings come from Talvin Singh, who would go on to be a big part of a healthy Asian Underground scene in the UK - he also got Bjork to re-record her vocals in an Indian style for a lovely version of Possibly Mayble (Calcutta Cybercafe Mix) There's a load of acoustic versions of this album, "Celebrating Wood and Metal" was a recording of an MTV show given out to members of her fanclub in the 90s (these versions are often the quite different backbone used for the remixes on Possibly Maybe), there's also a load used as b-sides on Violently Happy. Big Time Sensuality includes some very early songs she wrote, and features her playing the flute, which really doesn't seem to crop up again much til recently. There's also a really... weird... remix album called "The Best Mixes from the Album Debut for All the People Who Don't Buy White Labels", which are mostly by the Sabres of Paradise, which is notable for Andrew Weatherall, who turned Primal Scream's "Screamadelica" (1991) into the early house juggernaut it was. "Play Dead" (with David Arnold, of James Bond fame) was added to Debut in later editions, it is such a gorgeous song but it really didn't fit it very well. "I Remember You" is a really powerful cover that I assume came from the same recording as Like Someone In Love Disgustingly, there's a non-toilet version of There's More To Life Than This. It's best we never speak of it again

Experimental is a better, more accurate, and less pejorative word to use instead of psychotic when discussing Bjork's artistry. She tends to falls under the electronica, avant pop, and art pop genres. I don't know where you read that Debut or any Bjork album isn't cohesive. All her albums are quite cohesive with a clear theme and sound. The difference comes in the accessibility of the songs with their structure, delivery, and sound. Debut (1993), Post (1995), Homogenic (1997), and Vespertine (2001) are widely seen as Bjork's best and most accessible albums. Conversely, Bjork's most experimental albums are Medulla (2004), Biophilia (2011), Vulnicura (2015), and Utopia (2017). After criticism that her last three albums were increasingly experimental and atmospheric soundscapes, Fossora (2022), with its shorter songs and more discernible structure, is regarded as a return to a more listenable and accessible sound. The Timbaland produced Volta (2007) is seen as a return to a more accessible sound for Bjork and remains her highest charting album in the US (#9 BBH200). Coincidentally, Venus as a Boy is the song that made Timbaland want to work with Bjork. The song was deemed an album highlight along with Big Time Sensuality and There's More to Life than This. Shame you weren't crazy about it.

And the first song I listen was violently happy. Catchy music. Very new style for my ears. And then arrive the moment when I fall in love with bjork : when there is the fx on her voice : and if you catch me baaaybe e e e e be be be. I was in chock in the street with my Walkman and this sound effect. Because I have miss to say . This Walkman also have a new feature , STEREO ^^ so listen this fx effect with the stereo was completely amazing and new for me. I finish the song waiting that the guy on the radio give the name of the girl. BJORK. I take another bus , go to the cd shop. And buy the album. I go home . Listen the album. I have never remove the cd from one month ^^ I have listen this album every day. It was so fresh so new in 1993. And now in 2021, I am still addicted to bjork ^^ I have to check your Chanel to see if you have reacted to vulnicura . And specially , the song : family . OOOh I like this reaction especially that Debut is kinda my least favourite album. I mean I appreciate it but I choose to listen to it least frequently. So it’s cool to see someone vibing to it more than a die-hard bjork fan like myself does. Haha! it I think Volta (brass and electronics) or Selmasongs (everyday sounds + orchestra) should be your next step down the discography lane. I would wait with Medulla (human vocals only) until later… you know, once you’ve been desensitised to the odd, peculiar and bizarre :-) Keep up the great work! Such entertainment 😉
