@@bennshouts HAHAHAHA I was keeping it in theme with “It’s Oh so Quiet” shhhhh shhhhh 🤫😜 it’s the song that introduced me to Björk, so it holds a special place in my musical affinity for her 🥰 overall not my fave album, but I love that it’s like a transition for her future sounds. Hope you’re doing well, and much thanks for a great reaction 😘😘😘

possibly maybe is the lifespan of a relationship, from flirt to breakup.. each verse being a phase of the relationship. and headphones is about how she got mixtapes from a friend and how it helped her wind down and fall in love with sounds. also definitely better when wearing headphones. probably one of my all time favourites of hers, together with enjoy and possibly maybe :) just love all the intricate details, and noises. ^_^ (and this album is from 1995, so before homogenic.)

Lots of people call this her most accessible album, but it still has REALLY strange songs like "Modern Things" and "Enjoy", as well as her most extreme and unhinged vocal moments. I think one of the most striking things about "Post" is how all over the place it is -- for how accessible people make it out to be, it's always such a shock to go from "Hyperballad" to "Modern" to "Quiet". She was TRULY experimental from the start, not really having a "pop" album to her name

You should listen to Tricky's album Maxinquaye, he produced Enjoy and Headphones. And ofcourse Portishead's Dummy. Björk moved from Iceland to London for this album because she was very interested in the beats that came from the UK at that time. I think you'll love it too!

Very good reaction video thank you :) I was 17 when the album came out in France . I run fast to the record shop and buy 2 album. Ont to listen one for collection ^^ I listen the album and I was in chock !!! I didn’t go to school this day because I have listen the album all the day again and again . It was so new for my ears ^^ I was addicted to debut, but post was really better army of me hyperballad the modern things covers me headphones , my god , I have listen headphones , with headphones ^^ one million time . Because I am French , I don’t understand anything when I listen a song in English . So when bjork song , all I listen is bla bla bla bli blo bloooo you what I mean ? ^^ so for me , bjork voice was just an instrument . And on post she play a lot with her voice. And she add special effect too on her voice . Début post homogenic vespertine , the best album of bjork . You should watch the live dvd tour for post . Live a shepherd bush empire . Very very very good. Request album : for you next video , if you have time , I recommend you 2 album. French artist : Emilie Simon / Vegetal. French electro with a little touche of bjork. And an album that I love so much : blue 6 / beautiful tomorrow . Deep house vocal of jay denes , New York.

The last song is supposed to be listened to on headphones, she said. She appeared on the producer's album of that time, there's some story there I forget at this moment. It's worth checking out Tricky's albums. Army of me, and Modern things, are from her Debut albums sessions. Army was reworked, and I think the structure for Modern things stayed the same. Yes, Oh so quiet is a cover, it's actually quite faithful to the original, surprisingly, of course with her own personal twist. I love Enjoy. I listened to it when I bought the album as loud as I could repeatedly. One of the tracks she produced with Tricky, the father of trip hop. Isobel is part 1 actually of two songs. Part 2 is Bachelorette on Homogenic. Cover Me's mix that she loved best is on the album Telegram, and it rocks. I miss you is mixed into a r'nb hip hop song with a new jack feel on Telegram as well. Björk used to be in punk bands before her jazz album, and then Debut was techno. She's gone through many changes. Possibly Maybe is one of my all time favourite songs. The track has a sample she had permission to use, but for some reason her record company pulled all her albums because of it, and reissuing it without the sample, preventing her from reaching #1 in sales. The version you heard has the sample. They also prevented her from performing with Madonna at the time, they were going to release a duet, and her song Sweet Sweet Intuition which was left off Post was reworked for Madonna solo into the track Bedtime Story as consolation. Homogenic sounding different is because after Telegram was successful, she decided to not let the record company interfere too much, and let the mix she likes best appear on the album, unlike her previous two where the mixes were bsides on the singles. That's the reason why the single version of All is full of love is technically what the album version was, but then she felt Homogenic needed a softer ending, hence Howie's version. The video for All is full of love was also groundbreaking.
@daipearmain
@daipearmain 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't quite "get" Headphones until I heard its Ø mix on Telegram, and then I loved the original version. I think it's about someone special who used to make her mixed tapes inspiring her music. It definitely is, like she said, a song made for headphones listening. Tori Amos' To Venus and Back album was also optimised for small speakers and headphones, like Vespertine was.

Hey, you could go into the direction of Trip Hop (it's a genre) with your reactions. It's a fruitful era of beat-heavy music in the nineties [Björk is definitely inspired by that; elements in Homogenic and Post are Trip-Hop(-esque)]. I would recommend you two albums: first, something easy to get into but great nonetheless: Massive Attack's Mezzanine. And secondly, which I like more: Portishead's Dummy. Dummy is pretty somber and alien, but Mezzanine has those elements on some tracks, too. Dummy is my favorite record of the 90's btw. You would probably get some clicks from hardcore fans, like me! :-P Okay, see ya! :-)

The production of post was quite a chaotic one which is why the album is all over the place. Bjotk actually had a breakdown over it and re recorded huge sections of it cos she didn't think it was good enough and went ott. Army of me was written about her brother arnar and was basically a "pull yourself together" song for him. Isobel is the 1st of a 3 song trilogy about a woman whose a force of nature. So it goes isobel bachelorette and Oceania. Possibly maybe is the chronicle of a short relationship. Each verse is a month or stage of the relationship,the lava being his volatile temper. Cover me was recorded inside a cave in the Bahamas. Headphones was made to be listened to on headphones(give it a try you're literally surrounded by different sounds) And the "icelandic" where you can't understand what she's saying is literally just gibberish. Not English or icelandic.

Hyperballad is my absolute favorite song of hers! I love how the lyrics talks about her getting out her frustrations and letting out emotions you’ve kinda repressed. Army Of Me is also an industrial bop, which talks about confronting her lazy sibling. Also there’s a very neet version of that song featuring Skunk Anansie, where you to get to experience the closest of Björk deathgrowling. And yes It’s Oh So Quiet is indeed a cover! Also I think it’s one of her biggest commercial hits? I also have this personal memory of visiting New York 5 yrs ago, and I woke up 4-5 am in the morning and couldn’t go back to sleep cuz of jetlag. So I went outside and walked to Central Park and I let Possibly Maybe play. And I suddenly had this epiphany how that songs soundscape matched that of the busy early morning in a big city, still slightly dark and chill from the fall weather. Ever since it’s been one of my fave songs to relax to ✨

Björk’s music is classical music with leaves in chaotic creativity and roots in deeply precise composition.

This tour blew me away in 95. Saw her in SF. She was soooo punk rock in this period. I’ve been going to Bjork shows since her Sugarcube days. Seeing her in February!

If you see her music videos especially with this album, you'll understand where the songs are going. You have nice reactions to her albums and it's nice to see you react to the sounds and instruments in the background.

YAYY loved reaction as always, would recommend medùlla next, debut is more accessible than this album if you want another one that’s more easier to get into and also like post is very mixed genre, björk main producer but worked with some other producers including nellee hooper who worked a lot on debut and some others i love such as tricky (who she dated once) and graham massey from 808 state, the title post is referencing her after moving to uk at the time and also works with the first album title debut, debut (first) post (after) kinda like that but also post like mail referencing mailing her friends at iceland, the original album artwork of this album was different and way less colourful but had her licking a ball with a bunch of other metal balls around her similar to the single cover for hyperballad, would also recommend after albums to watch some music videos, like homogenic and many other albums this albums production is considered groundbreaking and ahead of its time

This album had a bunch of Graham Massey all over it - I believe "Headphones" was written about the mix tapes he'd send her. In 1991 she sang on his tracks "Ooops" and "Qmart" and those are a treat. In 1989 he had a top 10 UK hit with "Pacific State", which was really wiggly techno, with this ridiculously smooth saxophone noodling around over the top (full disclosure: I hated all the remixes he did of Bjork, lol. all of them. Even that one he did when she was still in the Sugarcubes. Awful.) You haven't heard Army of Me until you've heard the "Featuring Skunk Anansie" version, in which she's backed by a punk band and ends up screaming herself hoarse. There's approximately four hundred thousand remixes of Hyperballad, so I'll just say the one where she's backed by the Brodsky string quartet and it's just fully remade and reimagined, it's incredible - it actually was the basis for a very brief tour she did later, which I think had been intended to be recorded as a full release, but we just ended up with some incredible bootlegs (and for me, memories - it was held in a chapel in winter, lit almost entirely by candles. She livened up the extreme seriousness of it all with some hysterical covers of 1960s camp pop classics like Downtown) A decent handful of the other studio quartet reworks made it onto Family Tree later. "It's Oh So Quiet" was backed with one of the most nightmarishly industrial tracks she's ever put out ("Hyperballad Over The Edge") which I suspect must've done so much to put people off her, lol. But it is also where the Brodsky Quartet version appeared, and also her versions of the song she did for Madonna that became Bedtime Stories ("Sweet Intuition.") And, notably, a track with Dame Evelyn Glennie, a hugely awardwinning deaf percussionist called My Spine, in which Bjork is a perv (again) Isobel's B-sides Charlene and I Go Humble are incredibly good (I Go Humble was a Mark Bell track called Shove Piggy Shove, with Bjork adding vocals later. Charlene is apparently about Nellee Hooper's girlfriend who committed suicide, it's very sultry and dark) Bjork's collaboration with Tricky produced four songs - Enjoy and Headphones went on Post, Yoga (not Joga!) and Keep Your Mouth Shut (which is just You've Been Flirting Again with Tricky mumbling over the top) went on Nearlygod. Bjork got the better deal, lol. Possibly Maybe was meant to be a full relationship from start to finish - the single included the staggering, glorious traditional Icelandic song Visur Vatnsenda-Rosu, and I absolutely urge everyone to rush and check that out

Hyperballad its her best song. I reacted almost the same years ago when i listened to it for the first time. The living beat transition from the calm and narrative first part of the song to the second chorus and the chaotic but enjoyable "fall" (musically she is finally throwing herself from the cliff, with the verses echoing her last words), and then disarming synths escaping from the strings, as her body finally slamming against the rocks. Such an experience of a song that has to be lived.

I'm glad you caught the "dolphin sound" she makes in The Modern Things lol she used to do that often during live performances of various songs in the 80s and 90s. She did it after that, too, but less often. What an icon Mama B is ❤

I feel that to fully understand the world of Björk you also have to see their music videos!!. Post has probably the best Björk music videos, which featured some of the best directors of the 90s, such as Michel Gondry (Army of Me/Hyperballad/Isobel), Spike Jonze (It's oh so quiet), Stéphane Sednaoui (Possible Maybe) and animated video of I miss you by John Kricfalusi (the creator of Ren & Stimpy, a cartoon from the 90s)

Love you! This is one of her best albums. Her second album, which dates the time she moved from Reykjavik to London and found out the under-rave-club scene where she belonged to for a while (in the past). She met a lot of musicians and producers and even almost got married with Tricky... But an unfortunate event happened where a fan tried to kill her by sending her a bomb on postal service (post) and they decided to end the relationship. Im not sure if this has anything to do with the album name. I think it's more related to the fact she was traveling one place to another not only on the physical way but mental too.

@@bennshouts there is a remastered version of almost every album. In homogenic, she added some songs to the track list. "so broken" is dedicated to this event, to the family of the suicidal fan (which she visited with florals arrangements) and the sorrowful feelings of this attempt. It is pure spanish guitar cause the fan was latinamerican based in Madrid. I'm 90% the album name has anything to do with this but... come onnnnnnnnnnn what a coincidence huh! Sending u love from Mexico.
