I'm from Glasgow but I grew up in Hong Kong, we left just after the umbrella movement but I was in HK for the summer of 2019. I live in Edinburgh now and 6:38 is something that I don't think enough people in the west truly understand. I am honestly surprised after my few years in Scotland at just how restrictive some laws in HK really are, and how bad the censorship has become. I am grateful to be able to criticise the government of the UK and Scotland and say with my friends "this person is a so and so" because these are freedoms you simply don't have anymore in this once beautiful city. Hong Kong will always have a special place in my heart but the city it has become is not the city I remember.
