@BenOchart5 жыл бұрын
I do because I need a couple of buckets of tank water to rinse and store my bio media when I service the canisters, so I always get a WC in the process. If you have several filters, only service one at a time. The remaining beneficial bacteria in the other filters (and on the substrate and decor) will keep things in good shape.

1 Dropsy is in fact kidney failure symptoms and yes can be triggered by a bacterial infection Ich is a parasite just like flukes and worms (but of a different kind) Hemorrhagic septicemia is also treatable with antibiotics and if you can get a hold of a fish vet they can target it with a specific antibiotic rather then an OTC generalized type.

Thankfully I haven't had anything kill (knock on wood) anyone but I did have anchor worm and it was an absolute nightmare. Took months to finally get rid of. One of the ways I figured out what was going on, is by the duration and no deaths. I now have a stage 1 UV on all my tanks.
@BenOchart5 жыл бұрын
Was it the UV that got rid of them? Very interested.
@stayathomecichlidmom35795 жыл бұрын
After trying everything labeled for Anchor worm including Clout, I ended up using Dimilin X. It was actually interesting to watch them start to fall off. Unlike pictures on the web,which make them seem so easy to spot,they weren't on my fish.I could see something but it never looked like it does on Goldfish. Needless to say most seemed to be in and around the gills and when they finally where able to dislodge them, one fish in particular lit up like a Christmas tree, with relief I'd have to imagine.

Great tips. I:ve had two outbreaks of columnaris in my community tanks over the years, each resulting in around a 50% loss rate. Livebearers are particularly vulnerable to it.
@BenOchart5 жыл бұрын
That columnaris is nasty stuff. One theory is that it grows on feces so I've been a demon about vacuuming since I had my outbreak. The worse part was finding dead fish everyday for a week. Very frustrating.
@ansnfbsknanssshshbsnsndnd54382 ай бұрын
All my mollies slowly died over 2 weeks. (Not all of them were acting sick at the same time it was obvious it was spreading and not a toxin). One would breath heavy for 3 days, a day before they died they got red blotches all over. I treated for flukes before I saw the red blotches. Then treated with antibiotics. Think it was viral. Never had something this deadly before that couldn't be slowed.

I have lost 9 Discus to a disease. I noted that all 11 Discus were all staying to the back of the tank, breathed very fast, some had darker color, and some had clenched fins. I treated the entire tank with API’s General Cure, and I believed they had gill flukes is why. Throughout the treatment the fish died, and 1 died a week after the treatment. I followed the instructions, so I am just devastated at the loss, and now only have three left. I change their water (30%) every 3 days now, and before I did it 1 time per 7 days. However I see that almost all the experts state to do water changes daily, and up to 1/2 the volume. I have determined the Discus are just to hard to keep, and will stick to my angels, and I am thinking about trying Severum in my 80 gallon Discus tank. I have also tried isolating rams, and treating with API, but they died through the treatment. I got them at Pet Co, and asked were they isolated previously, and of course they were not. I honestly believe that the fish hatcheries and sellers are medicating these fish to the point that they have no immunity. I often do think the hobby is not worth it, especially after the Discus disaster.

@BradClarke5 жыл бұрын
Sound is really good. Columnaris is nasty. I had a suspected case of it that I believe a triggered via stress. I transferred fish (including substrate and filters) from one tank to another. A few days later I had one fish that was covered in a film and another with white fuzz behind it's dorsal fin. Long story short, over 20 young pygmy cories died. I currently have two left.
@BenOchart5 жыл бұрын
Crap. Once it takes hold it's hard to kill it off. How did you finally get it to stop killing?
@BradClarke5 жыл бұрын
@@BenOchart initially I did a nitrofurazone + Kanaplex treatment. Once that was done I had 5 days death free before it started again. The pygmy cory with the fuzz behind it's dorsal fin was still alive, but not getting any better. After more deaths I decided to euthanize it. Had a few more deaths afterwards, then it stopped. If I had done that sooner, would I have stopped the deaths sooner? Hard to say. Now I'm just watching the last two to see how they do. Oddly enough, the rest of the fry and the adults were placed in another tank at the same time. Had a single death in that tank. I hate seeing the last two by themselves in the tank swimming together, but it's too risky to consider moving them in with the others yet. We can't buy aquatic antibiotics over the counter here anymore, so I've got to be extra careful.

Hey Ben, sound is working great. I have a green terror who has white fungus looking spots on his pectoral and tail fins. I originally noted it when I had him in another tank about a year ago. I added a lasalle Cichlid which I had previously quarantined. I added the lasalle and after a week of being in the tank I noticed kind of a haze on the sides of the fish. Then, the green terror had white spots. I started treating the whole tank with different cures. I wasn’t sure what I had. Eventually I just tried general cure and it went away. However, it split the tail fin and ate away a piece of a pectoral fin. I recently set a 125 and put the green terror in there and now the white fungus (looking but don’t think it’s fungus) came back. I also noticed some white stringy poop. It has been years since I had ich in a tank. Could this be ich? Or do you have any other ideas? The fish is not exhibiting any strange behavior. Anyone have any ideas? I can’t find anything online about this condition.
@BenOchart5 жыл бұрын
Doesn't sound like ich. Ich, untreated, would have covered the fish and killed it already. Sounds like a fish with a weakened immune system. Try something stronger like Seachem metroplex and follow the recommended steps exactly. If you don't knock it out it will keep cross-contaminating other fish.

Ich can be devastating. The time period to respond can be short before losses start to mount. I have seen it nearly take down an entire. aquarium in 24 hours. Catch early, have the right medication on hand and treat as soon as it is discovered. If you have to wait for an Amazon delivery of the meds or pick one of the less effective meds, you risk your entire stock. I can remember being in Walmart at 2 am trying to find the right meds to treat 340 gallons of water - an impossible feat. I now have a gallon of Ich-X on hand at all times.

The sound is definitely better. I have dealt with Ich. That I beat. Recently, I fought, probably septicemia, for a month before 4 of my Bettas died. One is still fighting the good fight, but i don't think he's going to make it. I started keeping fish 10 months ago. My 3rd rookie mistake was letting someone feed my fish while I was on vacation. I thought I had dumbed it down enough. Nope. The night I came back, I started water changing. My Bettas all live in their own 10 gallon, planted tank. My only Betta that came through the massive over feeding okay is Mythic, my first and oldest fish. He survived my first and second biggest fish keeping mistakes. He's tough. So far, I've buried 4. :-( It is disheartening to say the very least.

Sorry to hear Ginger but it does get better. When I leave for a weekend I just don't bother having anyone feed them. They are better off fasting a little than getting over fed.
