Beautiful fish and tank. Thanks for sharing. I will check out this supplier for future purchases. I like the idea of putting stickers on my refrigerator. I will do that instead of just having them laying around.

Canister filters are the second best filters to have second only to a sump but not everyone can have a drilled aquarium so canisters are great they add more water more filtration and do the job

sir, my goldfish tank is 2.5'x 1' x 16.5" (h), 97 liter. Which sun sun model will be suitable sir? Will 302 be overpowering for goldfish for this size tank?

So right off the bat, how many 32 oz bottles of this stuff should I get for a new 125 gallon aquarium? And no, I don't have friends I'm the hobby who can give me some bacteria. 😁

Great thoughts there. I think for me the most frustrating part of a fish passing is sometimes we just won't ever know why. But the obvious reasons sickness and or they got beat up by another fish and we try to save them and they pass on we understand that. I have a rosy barb that I've separated currently because it was getting picked on to the point it appears injured so now we try to heal that fish before releasing it back to the group.

I just got back into the African Cichlid hobby this past March, and I've lost two fish. One was a Peacock male that another male really beat up and that was because one of the on-line vendors that I purchased some fish from mistakenly sent me a female blue dragon blood instead of a male. I now have 22 2" fish in a grow out tank because of that. I did not have guilt on this one, but was still very upset that I lost the peacock. The other one that I lost was kind of my fault. I was filling a tank after a water change and the python hose moved on me and started filling directly on top of a large rock that had a catfish under it, and he was killed by the chemicals in the tap water. I had already put my prime into the tank, but I guess the fact that the tap water was blowing directly on top of him killed him. That one really upset me, because it was my fault. I do seem to get attached to them. Kent

I have done exactly what you advise, however I have not added fish yet. It boosted Ammonia and Nitrites are kicking in during the cycle. I need to know during the cycle period can I keep putting in Fritz 7. Also is it a good Idea to pour the Fritz 7 into the submerged Filter. I have gone through the misty water stage. In the first week I put in some pellets to kick it off and all it did was to make the water misty and smell. Fritz 7 has made it clear. I now have a high ammonia and low nitrites reading, Am I doing the right thing? it is now week 2. Shall I keep adding Fritz 7, advice will be greatly appreciated. Greg from Great Britain.

I believe one of the reasons for confusion is that hexamita parasites are not always secreted in feces of the fish even when they are infected. They can arise in clusters or seasonally propagate in the host. Some people only look once or twice in the feces and conclude hexamita is not there just because they couldn't find it in that specific sample at that specific time. Of course the parasite cannot be found in the hole of the head. It hates oxygen that's why it prefers to live inside the gut. The hole could be anything, it can be some specific cytokine that's causing lateral line to inflame, it can be bacteria, it can be some chemical released by parasite, etc.

This has been a BAD fish death month for me. Trying to diagnose & properly medicate was very difficult as what I was seeing was not obvious as some diseases can be. Also, I'm not aggressive when it comes to medicating as it seems medication is tough on fish. However, I'm going to medicate as per instructions next time as in the end my fish died so if medication is hard on them I guess all in all it might be well to at least try I guess.
@Whips_World
@Whips_World 2 күн бұрын
I think it depends on how the death occurred. Sometimes, it's out of your control, and there's nothing you can do. Sometimes it's 100% your fault. Just make sure you learn from it. Look, I'm not gonna sit here and say don't feel bad about it. If you've had a fish for 12 years and then, one day, he's floating. Pat yoursef on the back and congratulate yourself for doing a heck of a job. If you forget to turn the filtration on after a water change and kill off half your fish, that's something you should probably feel bad about. Just make sure you learn from it so it doesn't happen again. Regrets are a part of life. That pain helps us learn. If their were never any consequences to the mistakes we make, nobody would care enough to change. But yeah, like you said, Ben. You can't beat yourself up over it indefinitely. Acknowledge it. Feel bad about it. Learn from it. Move on.

My fish that passed away of old age I don't feel bad about I feel lucky that I had them for a long time, but if it's a fish that I know I killed because I did something wrong and caused that to happen then I feel pretty bad about it, but I get over it when I get replacement fish, that cheers me up alot and learn from it too

Ben, I recently got my daughter into fish keeping. She's in her early 50s. She gets upset when a fish dies. I always say to her "that's part of fish keeping". Yes, it stinks and who would think you would be so emotionally attached to a fish but again, it's part of the hobby. I have a literal fish cemetery in my backyard where my husband buries my fish that have passed.

Good timing for my viewing this. I just lost one today. I find I get mad. Then disappointed. Then panic that something is wrong with the tank. Then start shopping. I now think its kind of a pipe dream that we can take fish out of their natural habitat and expect them to be happy in a fake man made environment. Can't fully replicate nature.

Ben, This is so true I recently lost some fish and I have no idea why? I lost a geophagus steindachi and I tested my water and everything was fine. I have no idea why he died and as far as I know there was no aggression. It was a community tank planted. He was little I didn’t have him very long. I always get boggled why fish die you test the water and everything is fine and you look at them as a failure like why couldn’t I keep him. I have also lost other fish and have no idea. I lost Bolivian German rams, I lost the geo like I said, I have had a rainbow fish just die and I am like is this bad genetics? That is the only thing I can think is there was something genetically wrong with them. I lost a few years ago a couple dwarf gouramis. They didn’t make it 6 months in my 20 gal long planted. Tested water and the same thing nothing. It just makes things weird when wish die and everything is perfect. I can’t keep angels either everyone I tried don’t make it and die. Uggh. I had some giant danios that I kept. Two died and again no idea why. I moved them to my big cichlid tank as dither fish and they just slowly started dieing off and I have no reason why? Only thing I can think of is bad genetics? Or was sick that I couldn’t tell. I just pay attention to what fish die and I don’t buy them again because they don’t live very long. I can’t keep snails either lol. I think that is because my water may be too soft for snails.

I agree with you Ben. I recently lost a beautiful Giraffe Hap from a tumor-like growth on its dorsal fin. The mass grew fairly quickly. I took him out of the tank, gave him clean water, I treated with broad spectrum antibiotics although I knew that it wasn't bacterial. He passed in a Little over a month. I felt horrible but not guilty.

@@MiamiObi I am so sorry that you lost your fish. It sucks I had some die on me also and I have no idea why. I panicked and test my water ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates and ph and all are good and I am like why did you die. It sucks as a fish keeper when you don’t know what’s wrong.

Nice! I'm sure everyone appreciates the correction. It's not something we SHOULD have to do, but in todays world, I guess I understand why you felt it needed to be done. People just need to remember, everyone messes up from time to time. Some of us more than others 😂 The fact that you called yourself out and corrected the mistake immediately shows everyone your professionalism, humility and integrity, the latter of which I find essential to being a quality human being.

So jealous. We used to import Malawi cichlids from top quality German breeders freely here in the UK but since Brexit that has changed .There seems to be too much red tape & cost involved now & German breeders won't ship. There definitely seems to be a shortage of Hap breeders in the UK as they are harder to come by now.

He arrived already big and colored up so I’m not sure how old he was. He developed growths, like cysts or cancer and it took him out. Fish, like humans, don’t always live a normal life span but can get things (again like humans) that cut them short.
