Right decision to not run, you'll recover quicker and be able to have a good season ahead rather than one average race and a bad season. Great to see you working back to it. Stay strong Ben :)

One thing I struggle with as a runner is being patient and not pushing myself too fast. Like you said if you take your time to get stronger, then there will be better results in the end😊

All that hard work gone to waste but stay positive fitter and stronger if that's possible for future races and next years TGC..Ive been struggling for a long time with Achilles pain and cant shake it off and have just withdrawn from the big one London marathon so do know how you feel..its uplighting for me to listen to your commentary and will look forward to your next update on your progress..good luck ben..

Now I feel like an idiot for the comment on your previous episode about seeing how the race went. This really resonates with me, just come back myself from a very similar injury but quite prolonged. Loving the positivity though and I know this was from an age ago, but hit a note so wanted to comment. I'm also in La Palma training at moment and due back end of week with lots of awesome footage to upload so the whole video was eerily relevant for me...thanks for sharing and keep up the great work Ben.

Good call Ben, I got a foot stress fracture after Dublin marathon and didn't back off. Paying for it now with no running and all I can do is strength and bike. Heart breaking but it's my own fault. You'll cone back stronger.

Ah.. so sorry to hear that David. You learn a lot about yourself through these periods.. it will feel amazing when you're back running though. Hopefully pretty soon now. All the best and thanks for following along.

Ah man sorry to hear you’ve been off running, I do follow you on insta but I must of missed your recent posts about it! Kudos for missing the race, must of been a tough decision but enjoy your time out there! I was gonna do the big half but can’t now, best of luck there!

Yeah, super tough.. but that's life. Can only move onto the next one.. Why can't you make it to the Big Half? All ok? Or just got other things on?

Ben Parkes yeah other things on but got a race the weekend after! Would of loved to of met you and done a quick video with you for my channel but I’ll hopefully catch you another time! Best of luck with your race, I think you’ll smash it based on your recent Valencia performance, as long as the knee is good I think you’ll fly 👌

Hi Ben. Sorry to hear about your injury--you''ll come back stronger I'm sure. Thanks for sharing this--it inspires me with my running. (A beginner runner just doing 30 mins). A quick question--When do you find it best to do the strength exercises? If I do them on my rest days I get a bit stiff and it interferes with my run the next day. However it seems a lot of work to do them after I run.
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Personally I like to do strength work little and often.. with my coaching athletes we do strength on days where there is a low intensity focus.. so easy running days. Then strength work at some point during that day... not necessarily straight after the run, just when there is a spare few minutes in the day. Then rest days are complete rest days, no running, no strength etc. Hope that helps!
@harveyemm48655 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for replying. I am going to try little sessions on my run days which are easy runs at the moment. All the best

You'll probably not see this, but were you planning on running Transgrancanaria in the Speedgoat 3? I've signed up for next year's race and have started thinking about shoes. Whilst I really like the Speedgoat 3, I feel like they are a wee bit too tight around the toes. Thinking of VJ Maxx, Salomon S-lab ultra 2 and Altra Olympus 3.5 as alternatives.
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
I was planning on running in the 3's.. but my feet are on the narrow side so they are ok. I haven't run in any of those other shoes.. but all I'd say is that 128k is sooooo far and you just have to go with what the most comfortable shoe you own is! All the best

Hi Ben, good to see you running again :) - I also just had a major setback: a serious bronchitis 25 days ahead of Marathon Day. I have just restarted running after a 2 weeks break and my form is terrible. I have given up any hope of a decent time on march 10 ( i was on par for a sub3h) but do you think i could recover form by April 7th or I should target a more distant race? Cheers and great job!
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea.. Yes.. after two weeks it's going to take some time to get back into feeling good again. Hard to say exactly, as everyone is slightly different with how long it takes. If I was you'd I'd get back training properly for a couple of weeks now, then decide on a race once you're running well again. Don't rush out and enter something yet.. just be patient and then decide once you know everything is going well. All the best and hope you get your sub 3 hour time soon!

Ben Parkes thanks for the feedback, much appreciated 👍 It’s gonna be my debut on the marathon but for the next one I look forward to try one of your plans :)

Do you take anti-inflammatory drugs for recovery?

Never have done. Some people will take ibuprofen, but it's not something I've ever taken.. in running or day to day life.
