What I like about you Ben, you’re not a big head mate. I was only the other day telling someone about you and retelling the story that broke me. Not only was I in tears telling it but the other person was in tears hearing it third hand, we are with you Ben. Xx
@andyasdf20783 жыл бұрын
I don't mean to be offensive here, but after someone's been broken they are generally not big-headed. They have no ego, no confidence and no self esteem. It's nothing unusual, and in my opinion it is not a positive aspect of their personality. If he wasn't a broken man, he would certainly still be a 'big head', as you put it.

I've only been riding for 2 years now, mid 30's, midlife crisis, learned to ride a bike, so this video from Ben very entertaining. Experienced a police bike escort to a football match once. 50+ coaches all escorted from Hartlepool to Darlington, watching the bikes leap frog to one junction to the next, thinking how skilled and trained they were. Now realising what chaos was going on over the radio!
@gentleman20122 жыл бұрын
Found your vid after watching the great escort work done by Police Scotland and the Met escorting the royal family after the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. I sympathise with the side stand issue. I was parking a Yamaha FJR1300 blood bike outside our local NHS blood unit, put the side stand down and lowered the bike onto it; that was the moment the side stand went (very precisely) between the slats of a drain and down went the 240kg Yamaha on its side. Luckily, there was a very helpful passerby who helped me lift the bike back up.

A lot of the commercial escorts they used to do (heavy/wide loads etc) are now handled by private contractors who try their best, but being equipped with amber flashing lights instead of blue, other motorists risk blasting past the escort/convoy as they know they won't be getting stopped and slapped with a ticket or summons. Also, like most specialised units (apart from ARVs) cutbacks have halved the number of RPU Bobbies, so it's quite rare to see a patrol car on the motorway, let alone a hog.

I do motorcycle Marshalling in my spare time and often work with the Garda Motorcycle unit (Irish police road policing), I hate doing competitive cycling events, any sterile space you create they take, even when the Garda lads give the signal to take the oncoming side to create a bigger bubble, the cyclists will move out onto the oncoming side with you. Biker charity runs can be fun, but the best events I do are the marathons, slower pace and plenty of time to take some of the more "Attractive" sights 😁 Great video Ben, If I were to change careers, motorcycle unit would be on the list; dangerous, but enjoyable.

Totally get what you are saying about the advanced driving , I raced bikes from being 11 , I'm now 44 but I know what these guys do is totally unbelievable to how good you think you are , I was lucky enough when I was in college to do work experience with the police in Liverpool, amongst loads of things like watching entries into buildings , lessons on lip reading , they put me in the skid pan with this nutter who put a cone not 10ft from a wall and said we are going around that , I sat in the passenger seat and he hammered it at the wall , turned the wheel, locked the brakes and calmly said if you let off the brakes the wheels will grip , and they did , we missed the wall by bugger all , that guy taught me so much in an afternoon about driving it was unreal , I was even allowed to have a go on the skid pan trying not to to spin out , I was shit lol , total respect for you guys

A colleague used to patrol a major A road between two motorways popular with truckers because of all the laybys on it. Truckers would often dump their porn mags in the bins in these laybys, and he would sometimes pull them out and put them in the panniers of the bike, Did it one day and got an immediate to an RTC on a roundabout (Diesel spill) unfortunately he managed to put the bike down on the same roundabout panniers flew open and there were porn mags blowing around all over the scene 🤣

One of the elite 'SEG' group. RESPECT. Question about the whistles used n London by SEG. Are they 'electric whistles' fitted to the bike or do you have like have a referee whistle in your mouth? Always hearing these on VIP convoys. KUDOS to all the Police riders. Our next door neighbour was an unmarked pursuit rider - hes retired now. He had plain black leathers but he had big black bike FAST with hidden lights etc. So he could mix in with the civvy bikers and then when they start going loony he nicked them! Think it was a Hyabusa or a Ninja?

I have a GS myself and when that thing goes its not fun to pick up. Might buy an RT too As for that driver that almost hit you, she needs to be banned from the road.
