@@formhubfar a few years ago an elderly neighbour passed away a few doors down from me, I was coming back from work when they were removing her body (about 11pm) and I seen two other neighbours were sitting in deck chairs in one of their front garden drinking tea and watching the paramedics or Corona go about their work, I was gobsmacked.

You've reminded me of an exchange I had with a sergeant at an accident a while back. We've been let through the outer road closure, and pull up at an accident to a 20-something year old not breathing, cardiac arrest, no further details. Sgt: You can't get through here. Road's closed. Us: We've been sent to a cardiac arrest around here. Sgt: Go around. Us: We've been sent to a cardiac arrest HERE. Sgt: Go around. This a fatal collision. Us: Might this be the job we've been sent to then? Sgt: No. Go away. Find another way past. Us: How? Sgt: Not my problem. We try and go around, hitting the same accident from a different direction. PC at that closure: Let me let you guys in. Turned out that we'd been sent to another patient at the same job with a minor ailment, but had been put on the back of that job rather than a separate incident. We ultimately got sent on a 20-30 minute blue light run from one side of a road closure to the other. Someone else had already dealt with the fatality, and I'm not sure if the sergeant was aware that the ambulance incident officer at the other end of the closure had booked the extra patient onto the job. I understand that the sergeant was under a lot of pressure with what was going on, but her lack of willingness to engage in communication was really not helpful to anyone. Betari's Box springs to mind there. When you were on traffic, and had an ambulance arrive to a fatal with the crew saying "We've been sent to a cardiac arrest here", and you know that there's already been people dealing with the fatal, what would your response be? "Idiot ambulance, trying to get into my crime scene" or "I'm not expecting you guys, let me find out what's going on, please stay there for now" (Sorry, that turned into a bit of a disjointed ramble - your videos are good at making me think back to past experiences and jobs, looking at things from another angle)

Well said mate, I deliver kitchens to residential addresses and constantly meet those well healed mouth breathers that can't cope with a minor inconvenience to their sat navs, or absolutely HAVE to park outside their house immediately! On a public road with no driveway mind!

I've spent 27 years in retail and can confirm most shoplifters are stupid , too many stories to tell . More worrying was the growing trend for the Police to consider it just an inconvenience as the retailer is the only victim and they can afford it . One of the reason I got out.

I work in a shopping centre and a lot of the shops don't bother prosecuting because it's not worth it, a lot of shops would rather take the hit of shoplifting than pay for a security guard.

One of my favourites I saw on one TV show or other was when burglar broke into a big shopping centre through the roof, dropped in through the ceiling into a shop, then couldn't get out through the door, as it was bolted, barred and shuttered, and couldn't climb back up to the hole in the ceiling they'd come in by 🤣

A few years ago while I was working as a bin man there was a serious accident on a part of our round. We got our supervisor to find out whether we could go down later. As it turned out a car had been t boned and a woman had been seriously injured and there was a team from the nearby hospital operating on her on the road but sadly she died. While our gaffer was talking to the officer that had closed the road some numpty was trying to get through even after he was told no. He was angry as he was late for an appointment and only gave in when told they were operating in the road and if he didn't go he would be arrested

I once stopped a burglary because the silly bollocks had left their car running outside whilst they all went in the house. I phoned the cops then locked the car, took the keys and chucked them under a bush then watched them from over the road. Luckily cops turned up pretty quick, I wouldn't have been hard to spot the tree I was hiding behind didn't block out my laughter.

I cannot believe there are people that would even say anything to an emergency vehicle blocking the road. I work doing deliveries for fast food at night and so come across ambulances pretty often and i have to find another way. Literally if you start driving another way the sat nav reroutes ffs.

I was walking down a street in london and there was blue tape across the road and I watched a women with headphones on walk up to the tape and without breaking her stride, lifted the tape and ducked under it and kept walking. The boys from the met sorted her out fairly sharpish as they should

I was on a large scene a few weeks back at a stabbing in a town centre. I was there for 6 hours and by the end the reasons given to the public were getting more bizarre. My favourite was that an engine had fallen out of a glider 🤣

When you move on from Response/Neighbourhood and into something like CID or PPU, no longer finding yourself having to do sceneguard you think it's the best thing since sliced bread. Then several months down the line you find yourself sat in the office, 3 hours late off looking through your 47 jobs and thinking to yourself "Christ, I do miss just being stood on a scene for an entire shift..." 🤣

Its going to sound weird but i almost expect a certain level of professionalism from burglars. Ive been through it more than once. I used to live in a very decent area hence it had a high burglary rate. The time that stands out was near Christmas. The ground was covered in ice and we had a two sheds in the garden with big trees in the garden so no one could see you from the main road if you where in that garden. Me mam woke up because the dog came up stairs to let her know someones about. She looked out and saw two lads in the garden trying to break into the shed. She opened the bedroom window and just shouted oi lads do you want the key ? They panicked and started slipping on the ice. It only took about 3 minutes for them to get out the garden but they kept falling over and slipping. Me man want down stairs and just opened the back door and just stood their with both dogs. In the end the one that actually got loose to chase them was a jack Russell x daschund. They did get over the fence but they did keep shouting the fking big dogs got out. The big dog was just sat on the steps just watching. Honestly the level of some peoples complete incompetence is hilarious.

What if it's something like a 'fun run' (WTF is fun about running..?) and you live three doors down from the barrier, and no runners have been seen for 20 minutes..? And the road closure isn't even ON the run route, just bordering on it..? I was sat at a barrier for half an hour because this jobsworth wouldn't let me through, when I could see my house from where we were and I would have inconvenienced or caused risk to absolutely nobody. Grrr.

Outside the Criminal Courthouse in the Bronx across from Yankee Stadium, guys stashed their weapons in the bushes nearby just before they went into their hearing. Later that night the weapons were collected by the locals, as if these guys had no idea that what got them into Court in the first place wasn't serious enough to get them locked up. At least they didn't pick up the additional weapons charge.

I remember one night when I was heading home and a girl in her early 20s had been hit by a taxi the windshield had been smashed and the girl was lying in the road. Once the police and ambulance were on the scene. My friend and myself started re directing traffic and helped out the only way we knew how.

I always thought it was funny that if you blocked a road at a major accident with a police car, firetruck, or an ambulance people would stop and have 20 questions. But, if the highway department responds and parks a dump truck sideways in the street with a "Road Closed" sign in front of it people will find a detour with no questions asked.

Different when it’s off duty emergency service staff offer to help I guess I had a guy ask me why I wouldn’t move the ambulance closer when the patient was on a narrow dirt track that was covered in boulders and was not wide enough to get a car down let alone an ambulance but they wouldn’t accept it

I'm a paramedic and a doctor, and I tried a couple of times to offer assistance at events where I knew I could help. On one occasion I stopped enroute to work at a vehicle rollover, and was told in no uncertain terms by the single highway patrol unit in attendance to fuck off, only to arrive at work and be immediately dispatched to the same incident, which had gone from serious to fatal in the interim. The highway patrol officer who had declined my assistance ten minutes previously was unable to look me in the eye, even though I gave her plenty of it. I assume she didn't mention the sequence of events in her paperwork, and neither did I, especially since she had sneered "how do I know you're a paramedic?" [Er... the uniform maybe?] Another time I came upon one of the local police units (single officer) on a country road where a small tree branch was lying in the roadway, blocking 2/3 of the tarmac: one reasonably fit (read: with both legs and at least one arm) adult could have easily moved it off the road, two could have played rock, paper, scissors and danced a jig while doing so, and yet the officer irritatedly waved me on, saying he had to wait for the SES (state emergency service) to come and chainsaw the offending branch into manageable segments, as if I was an imposition and a moron for not knowing that. I'm well aware that the public can often be well-intentioned yet unaware of potential risks at accident scenes, and it's necessary to decline offers of help purely from a safety standpoint, but sadly, donning the blue uniform doesn't mean the wearer is rendered immune from lapses of common sense. (I don't mean to point exclusively at police officers either- these two examples just happened to be bobbies, but I've also seen plenty of ambulance idiocy). I think my point is ultimately pretty similar to Ben's: the two things in life that enrage me more than anything are wilful stupidity (if you're genuinely thick it doesn't count, you can't help that) and hypocrisy. And the public don't have exclusive rights to those. Which is why I don't offer assistance to emergency personnel on scene even if I know they could use it, and I don't recommend anyone else do it either. I know you mean well, but it's often an unknown quantity. Keep up the good work Ben.

If I was passing by an incident involving police or any emergency services, there is a first instinct to want to help. But, at the same time, there is no point because I know that I'll have 0 idea what to do whilst the emergency service(s) will.

Was at an RTC last night and trying to direct traffic, cars almost coming to a stop staring at the smashed cars while I can see a mile of traffic behind them. Get so frustrated shouting at them to get a move on. Also at the RTC, large portion of the traffic turned down a side street just before the crash and about half hour in, woman comes up to me saying there's loads of cars down there its mental someone needs to do something... great vid. you should work in the hotel trade we have stupid guests ie they ask does are bed and breakfast rate include breakfast ?. there was this one guy in 2015 after storm Desmond drove all the way up to the road closed sign then back come into the hotel and moan at me and A friend saying why is the road closed..yet it had been on the news weeks before. .i could go on but ill be here all night.. or guests ask is this place haunted and you say yes. so they sleep all night with the light on thinking a simple light is going to stop a ghost

I've had folk having a go at me for holding a train to wait for police because two passengers have just been assaulted by a fellow passenger. And sadly, even worse, we do get folk being difficult and verbally abusive with staff when trains are suspended due to a 'One under' I.e. person struck by a train. "But I need to get home, when will we be moving". How do you answer that politely when the answer is - just as soon as we've finished collecting all the pieces off the track? Some folk have no sense of perspective. They cant see beyond the end of their own nose. Also - fun question to ask any public facing member of Railway staff (booking office, guards, ticket examiners, stations staff, Steward - anyone) 'what is the single stupidest question a passenger has ever asked you?' You will get some crackers!! 🤣 For me it can be fun to watch on a Friday or Saturday (and this is a good definition of stupid in my book) the folks who start trouble - you go up in a railway uniform and try to get them to tow the line . . . They act up more to you. Okay - I work here and I'm in uniform so that was your first chance to tow the line. So you get the police. And when police arrive they act up even more. Shouting, swearing, abusive . . . And you are sat their thinking "mate, that was your second chance. See if you'd shut your mouth and behaved they probably would've had words and left you alone - now you're getting done".

Sunday morning 30 of them surrounding 4 people blocked in by cars on all sides ! Overkill , question - On a Sunday morning , How many were on overtime (double time) ? my guess is 26 ,all answers on a postcard plz.

If they’ve being using the sat nav for 9 years every day they definitely should of known the route home long before now. There’s only one road to get to my houses but I know multiple ways of how to get back after 2 years

Isn't the essence of Policing dealing with stupid people anyway? ( the criminals). Even smart criminals are stupid in the end. Policing is a dirty job ( drunks, junkies,etc) but someone has to do it. Massive respect to the interceptor guy for being so candid because it's a head-fuck of a job anyway.

Ben question for you: If you were on shift with another bobby, and that bobby illegally arrested someone for nothing other than a hurt ego, and he starts grabbing and pushing the member of the public to try and arrest him, and said member of public knocks that bobby out, what do you do? Defend a colleague or defend the public?

There's a way you can sort of do both, not many officers would though. Firstly you'd be arrested for police assault anyway even if the copper instigated it and was being a nob. But in the arresting officers statement, if he was really nice he could mention the provocation that caused the incident (the arresting officer would be a different one to the one knocked out but would be his oppo). Better yet there could be body worn, so when it gets to interview and the solicitor sees it, and probably the officer from the next shift they'd just NFA you. I've seen it happen for something similar

@@mancunioner This was the answer I expected to see. It just doesn't seem right to me, I can't get my head around it. I've worked in a few different sectors over my years and called out colleagues directly over how they've treated others, and it just seems to me that within the police a lot of officers "seem" to let poor behaviour of their colleagues slide even when they witness it. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a lot of members of the public do deserve certain treatment, but I worry that officers in general become so used to dealing with bad members of the public that they forget to use discretion with good ones.
