Hey Ben, may be a hot topic but would love to hear your thoughts on the wedge our government are driving between the police and citizens, for example the government using the police and justice system as a strong arm for private companies.., like the police and the courts imprisoning people for non payment of the BBC license fee, how the general public now see the police as nothing more than cash generators for the greedy elite, how more and more (Law's) are being created like licenses to have fireworks.., also one thing I would like to make a point of is how in the US this has become an obvious tactic to drive a wedge between police and citizens.., for example the US gov created (no knock raids) for police.., around the same time they created the (stand your ground) law.., meaning US citizens could legally shoot (and kill) the very police officers tasked with carrying out these (no knock raids).

Tasers should be standard issue for ALL coppers on day 1. Too many times I've seen the classic madman with a knife. You're cornered, spray does fook all. You could try baton, but now you're in slashing distance. Backup will be too late. Taser is 99.9% guaranteed to resolve the situation. Makes sense.
@glenmurray7699
@glenmurray7699 2 жыл бұрын
Taser is so hit and miss, in the middle of winter with big puffer coats it's likely to be ineffective. Some crims say they'd rather be tasered than sprayed, it's not the finished article at all.
@indigo_enigma
@indigo_enigma 2 жыл бұрын
@@glenmurray7699 Yes absolutely. It's often the clothing that causes a failure. But like Ben mentioned, it can be used to directly stun. And then of course you can incorporate using other, more commonly exposed body parts as targets, arms & legs being the obvious. It's not a perfect system. There's probably no such thing. But it's an improvement.
@brh9262

When I was policing, we had tasers, but were asked individually whether we would carry them. I was on my probation so I couldn't have one at the time, but I would carry one I would never carry a gun though, not interested. I respect the guys that do and the responsibility they hold, but any incident I ever went to could be dealt with without the use of guns by me, even incidents involving knives The taser is often the no.1 tool and on the occasions I worked alongside armed response, it was for search warrants, to make use of their enhanced medical and negociation training; or for deterrence sake
@helenHTID
@helenHTID 2 жыл бұрын
@@brh9262 But times have changed dramatically, And thousands of police are being assaulted.. Quite often really badly, And sometimes fatally.. With many single crewed. Plus the rise in gun and knife related insistences, Including terrorist threats, Where more than often the nearest cops are not armed units, And in general cops can walk into anything.. I really do think we need to change with the times and police need a service firearm! We are one of very few nations in the world that do not routinely arm our police (northern Ireland being an exception). You may not need to ever use it, Depending on what you face, But it's the ultimate deterrent and protection tool for police and the public. And regulation needs to be put in place, To allow the use of it when necessary. But this would involve spending money resources and creating paperwork, Something the government likes to avoid and so do police chiefs.
@brh9262
@brh9262 2 жыл бұрын
@@helenHTID you make some good points mate I left the police December 2020 and worked on a drug team, and one thing I found was this idea that if the police were routinely armed, criminals would match us, make no mistake, there are millions of guns on British streets and the only reason they're not as prevelant as they are in the US is because it's an expenditure criminals can't afford; where they don't need them. Police not having guns keeps criminal guns lower than they could be, and arming police sends the wrong message; police are meant to represent the public and use the community (not bullets) to deal with incidents Imo I like the way it is now, having dedicated firearms officers, the only thing I would change, is tasers for everyone; and that's purely for a non lethal injury free way of detaining someone that pain compliance won't work on

They recently had a incident in Arkansas where the state police were trying to pull over a individual on a motorcycle who was doing over a hundred miles an hour they were finally able to stop him , he got off the bike and begins to run the officer makes the choice to use his taser instead of his service weapon. Individual is wearing a backpack and when the taser probes hit the backpack it burst into Flame. Turns out the individual was transporting gasoline in a container inside the backpack and the discharge from the taser probes cause the container to ignite while he was running. They were able to put the Flames out and get him to medical care., as far as I'm concerned what he endured was a worse punishment much worse than what would have happened if he had just simply pulled over and taken the ticket. And it's not the cops fault in my opinion because they had no way of knowing what was in that container., and he also chose to run

@residentelect 2 жыл бұрын
@@mrpeterson1481 You can apply to the Dog Section after passing your two year probation as a regular Response/Beat Bobby. It's what we call a "Dead Man's Boot's" job as Dog Handler is so sought after that it's literally one person out through injury, retirement or promotion etc, then one in to replace him/her. Handlers very rarely leave that posting through choice. If successful at interview you do a "dog suitability course" to ensure you are the right type of person who should be in charge of 30-odd KGs of muscle and teeth, and then you do your actual "Handlers" course, using established PDs. When the time comes you're paired up with a probationary PD, usually a juvenile who still requires lots of training and attention, and you concentrate on a period of bonding with your new best mate and intensive training. At the end of the course if you've both passed you're allocated to a team/shift. You normally start with a General Purpose (GPD) Shepherd or Malinoid, and as you gain more experience you can then apply to also run with a SDD such as a Spaniel or Labrador which specialises in detection of anything from guns and explosives, to bodies and cash. Hope this helps, mate.

It's the Press To Talk (PTT) button to allow the driver to send messages via the Airwave radio. It's mounted there or occasionally on the gearstick so that the driver's hands are never too far from the controls of the car. You're supposed to use it instead of the handset mounted on your body armour/belt, although it isn't strictly enforced.

Most of the time (and I know from experience) it's always women that hit, punch, kick, stab, etc the bloke. Something I've noticed over the years is that a lot of women these days are ducking mental. I try my best to not tell anyone about this story. Even though it was a while ago, it's still very tender 😢 I could tell you a few stories about my ex's where they've been punching and hitting me n following me around the house to continue verbally and physical attacking me. SO. We n my mates went out for the night, I was the designated driver which was pretty much every single time I went out. We'd all have a really good night and as soon as we were ordered food, a switch must of flipped in her head. I had NO IDEA what was to become. She started to be really nasty towards me. I had to drop some of my mate's off and the car was deathly silent. But as soon as they got out, she was ripping into me and punching me whilst I'm driving. As it went on, it got worse and worse. When we got indoor, she REALLY starting to lash out at me. When we got into bed she started to kick me so I got out of bed and went into the next room so I could sleep. She followed me and continued to rip into me so I'd had enough by this point and I wanted to get out my house. So whilst I was getting dressed, she hid the keys and I was looking everywhere for them. I then realised where they were and she started attacking me. So I was trying to leave my house and she was pushing me so I couldn't get the key in. When I was just about to leave my house, she pushed me so hard I almost snapped the key in the lock. But when I finally got outside, she was still shouting and attacking me. I had to leaver her out of the way, just so I could get in my car. She went back indoors and started to thrown shoes n all sorts of stuff at me and my car. It was unbelievable and I was in complete shock as I NEVER even imagined she'd do something like that. I don't think I see her for a couple of days. She must of rang me a couple of 100 times at least! She also left countless voices mail's crying her eye's out say how sorry she. When I came home, I acted as if she wasn't there. I can't count how many times she wanted to give me a BJ or have sex, just to say I'm sorry. There's quite a few things she did that ended our relationship. But shagging a bloke from work and then denying it was the final straw. I love being in a relationship, but modern woman these days it really isn't worth it. The vast majority of western women these days are toxic. There are only a few traditional women these days that are loyal, trust worthy and who want to love n respect their bf/husband. Men love so much more and so much harder than a woman even could. That's all facts btw .

A tazer is shit, I'm an armed guard in the US and refuse to carry one. They are completely useless in the winter or even when a suspect has on a heavy Hoodie.

I worked for a farmer when I was a kid, I was whitewashing an outbuilding when I accidentally touched my elbow on an electric fence, I swear it felt someone had hit me on the shoulder with a baseball bat.

I think all of us who were around farms when we were younger, either accidentally or deliberately touched the electric fence... But only once 😵‍💫

I preferred the pre-taser days where the police would just overwhelm dangerous people with huge numbers of officers with batons and shields, but I guess funding the emergency services properly isn't an option that the government is a fan of, so nowadays we prefer to have fewer police but with better weaponry instead! 😉 It's not an easy debate, but I'm not going to pretend I know the answer. Tasers over guns though, that I'm sure of - one of the smartest things about our police is that they're not in an arms race with criminals, like they are in so many other countries. I would hate to live somewhere where it was the norm for petty criminals to be armed.

tazers should be made legal for protection for anyone who has a firearms permit ! if they can be trusted to own firearms then they can be trusted to have tazers for protection. check republic, poland , germany , austria allow allow tazer for any member of the public without a permit and they have less violent crime then the UK

I know the real reason … is it not so that if a police officer is trained and carries a taser then that officer has been on the receiving end of said taser ? You just didn’t fancy 50KV through your pecs 😂😂

The way things are going I belive all frontline officers should have tazer, more and more unarmed officers are being sent to jobs were knives are involved and a tazer gives officers the ability to intervene at a safer distance than a batton or pava, also as Ben explained if all officers had tazer then domestics could be dealt with solely by divisional officers and leave ops to do their own thing
