Suggestion : the kd7 bass trigger has a mix in function so you could connect two of those to a single input on the HPD. I used to use them as a double bass solution on an old td7. They are very cheap these days - worth a look - would solve your double bass drum issue.

@@BenRowlandsMusic Alternatively those inputs are usually set up to accommodate pads with head and rim triggers, so if you get a y-split cable (1xTRS to 2xTS connectors) you can effectively run two single triggers per input. That's how I used to do it when I owned the HPD-15, so I'd imagine it would be the same for the HPD-20

I just got mine, I already have kontact, and the Yamaha 12 pad but it has 1400 sounds so there is a lot available to me, plus I have a Kat 4 pad, and although they are very inexpensive, they are another hand pad available with full midi at $100 quite a bargain, I have all of the pocket operators literally, every one, so more options along with a few drum machines, also loaded with sounds and midi. It's endless really! Thanks for the video! It did help go to the next level with the 20! Peace

Why not use a Y cable to add a second kick pad or a double bass pedal?

I'm wondering what the settings are inside the menu so I can get a normal hi hat response with the FD-8 pedal. It does a few weird things but I can't figure out how get it to just go to the middle circle pad and be a normal hi hat. I tried a ton of things. With the pedal all the way down, it still does open hi hat if I hit it hard. It ignors that the pedal is all the way closed. I just want a mini drum set and at this point, I don't know if that's possible... I've tried Soooo many things and failed... If anyone knows what to do in the menu, I'd greatly appreciate it !!! Thanks !

Hi Ben so glad i found your page, i have just recently purchased the Red SPDSX and was wondering why there as so few sounds and have been trying to buy or download sound, especially percussion sounds. It was a toss up between the HPD20 and SPDsx and now i am seriously considering sending it back as i have only had it two weeks and ordering the HPD20. I am wanting more percussion sounds and Cahon sounds. I also am using a RC 300 and want to get into using Ableton with a controller. Any recommendations there. Many Thanks for great videos. I have subscribed.

Great vid. Good to see a full review of an odd bit of kit! Its better midi featured than the Korg Wavedrum series fo shure. I wonder if using a splitter might solve your dual kick drum issue. I know of an inexpensive di/ splitter box by Behringer the D120 that just possibly might split a signal. The combined ‘Link’ output is XLR of course but I’m sure you have an XLR to Jack knocking around. Even if it doesn’t work you’ll only have spent 20 quid and it sure would help somewhere else in your rig I’m sure. All the best Ben Jonboy xx

Yeah!! A splitter may work, it is definitely something I need to sort out to make my live performance a little easier.

Hey man, love your custom rig. I weld so I know the work that went into it. Anyway, I'm a drummer in San Diego and I'm setting up a hybrid acoustic / triggered kit and keep head-scratching on what's best to invest in equipment wise. I have an SPD-30 and KD-7 kick to use as well a Korg Wavedrum. The SPD-30 can do live looping but as I learned, not when used as a midi controller. So I've now got a small launchpad mini for loop launching but want, for example, to lay down a simple beat with the spd-30 and loop it. Is that something you do quickly with ableton and do you use a foot-switch to stop start the loop? (that's how I want to do it). Lastly, with the wavedrum it has no midi unfortunately and would love to loop it as well, but for that I guess I'd have to shell out the big bucks for a looper as I don't see how that could easily be done with Ableton unless you have other suggestions. I also wish there was a cheap midi only drum pad with no internal sounds at all. It seems really cost prohibitive to buy the spd-30, spd-sx, hpd-20, etc if the end result is just going to be feeding it sounds via DAW. Alternate Mode makes some of course, but again, very expensive for a "dummy box" of just pads.

Does handsonic do auto quantise with live looping? It’s such a simple feature introduced many years ago but I’m amazed that spdsx and the Alesis strike multipad don’t come with this feature
@dustinb107011 ай бұрын
I'd assume it would do that but most people looping have that controlled with a hardware looper or a software solution that does that.

Thank you Ben, I’m thinking of buying the HPD-20, is (GGD get good drums) the most realistic drum kit plug-in?
@kevinbothwell84253 жыл бұрын
I’ve used ezdrummer, superior drummer, and ggd. They’re all incredible pieces of software. If you want GREAT sounds with VERY little work, ggd is outstanding. If you want a little more control, ezdrummer provides a bit more control. If you want COMPLETE control, go superior drummer. But there’s no denying the bang for buck ratio is strong with ggd.

Very hard to watch this till the end...trigger input is a dual zone input, so you can always connect 2 pads or triggers. But kickdrums like KT10 also have an in and output so you can connect 2 and use 1 input. You can also use a hi hat pedal or footswitch to trigger a sound. The YAMAHA DTX12 multi has the most ext inputs but the pads are not so good as the HDP pad.
