Why are they numerically equal? I can't really wrap my head around how for example the formula mass of N can be 14u, and the molar mass 14g/mol. Is there any way to show how 1 mol weighs 14g while one atom weighs 14u?

You're saying "atomic mass," but it sounds like you're talking about atomic weight (i.e. relative atomic mass.) E.g., the atomic weight (relative atomic mass) of Carbon is ~ 12.01 u, whilst the atomic mass of Carbon-12 is 12 u.
