I've worn the Lorus Sport Lumibrite regularly for what must be at least 10 years now. I'm an adventure motorcyclist and it has suffered the vibration of on and off-road touring through over 20 countries from -25c to +50c. I don't recall ever changing the battery, the Lumibritie is amazing for a watch in this price bracket and the slim profile fits perfectly under the cuff of my motorcycle gloves. I am a watchmaker and collector. I have a choice of many more expensive watches but this one ticks all the boxes. If it ever broke I'd buy another one in an instant. The strap is now a little frayed but is exceptionally comfortable and still going strong. Great review. Thank you.

Why choose? Why pay £100 combined for two field watches that are almost identical. For another £150 you get a Hamilton Khaki. For another £120 you could get one of the new Seiko 5 range. There is a tipping point where buying too many low cost watches becomes a false economy. Because you could have used the combined cost to purchase something higher end and iconic. Have one or two low cost watches in your collection, but don’t over do it. Get one of these and get a Casio A158W.

I have the lumibrite and I just loove it. Actually you do not have to be an adventurer to appreciate the lume of the dial, you can just be the sort of person who stays up way too late - hence my preference. I really like the green tint to the creamcolor, so for me that's just perfect, trick is to use either a more green strap, or some more vivid colors on the strap (looks great with black strap with an orange stripe for instance) - it's a slim watch, so a NATO-strap works just great. I can't compare it to it's titanium-sister, since I don't have one nearby, but looking at Bens video here, I can tell that the greater contrast between hands and dial on the lumibrite, will make it much easier for me to read at a glance. I have slender wrists, but I'd still like the diameter to be juuust a little larger - 40mm or so, but it's not a dealbreaker. It's a great watch: you put it on, forget you're wearing it, and get a pleasant surprise each time you need to tell the time :)

Why would anyone want a mechanical field watch though? You drop them and they need repairing. Mechanical watches haven’t been used in the field since quart and Casio came along. Nice to look at but not fit for purpose. And at the very least you would need a self wnd. Not just an automatic. They stop too often to be of any use in the field.

Its crystal was rather scuffed from all my adventurers but it maintained it accuracy throughout. Eventually I bought a Lumibrite, simply because I couldn’t find another Titanium for sale. But managed to smash the crystal less than 8mths. later, (don’t get hit by a tree is my advice). After effectively losing both and after a couple of months of looking, I eventually bought another Lumibrite. Hoping I don’t get hit by another tree anytime soon. It has been totally reliable and it takes some very rough treatment in my line of work. Buy it: you won't be disappointed. Rick

@@grahampinnock309 What you'll find is that the Lumibright works best (if it has charged) walking out of the office to your car or to catch the train. It's, initially, much blighter than the Titanium. But, if you're in total darkness, say several hours later, then the Titanium version is just about readable, while the Lumibright version is completely unreadable. Neither are particularly good (the push-button lighting of Timex is much better), but for my use the Titanium has the slight edge. I bought the Lorus titanium mainly because of the colour, it stood out from all the chromium, and gold coloured watches in the window. I also like the aesthetic, it isn't in any way 'Bling.' It was also very good value, especially as it has been working reliably (and accurately, for the 15+ years since I bought it. I found out the hard way a couple of years back that the 'waterproof to 100m' claim, is not for the lifetime of the watch, as mine let in water and stopped. It's been all round the world with me now, the crystal is scratched but I have no intention to replace it. In fact, I think I'd get a replacement movement for it, when it eventually fails, if that ever happens.

Mine has the previous VX32 movement. I wonder if it is possible to buy both and do a mix and match on the components, lumibright dial in the titanium case? I have had the titanium one for 10 plus years, the titanium is rather soft and it does wear, all the sharp edges are gone on mine and it now has a gentle polished look, all the matt has gone. Still the most comfortable watch ever, it's now on a leather strap.

Eyeing the Lumibrite exactly for the "bad print" on the dial. To me it looks a little more "vintage", kind of like a patina... goes really well with the black painted hands and small case/dial diam. Love both but own the SS Lumibrite, that said I think I prefer the cleaner face of the Titanium, wonder if I can still find one?

The titanium one has a much cleaner dial. And I like the look of the hands more. So it would be my number one pick.

Clear, helpful video. Thanks for that. Lorus is a sound budget brand.

Thank you for this. However, do consider the Ricardo Swiss Alpine Military watch. Oddly, it's never considered in videos on field watches. (Ricardo have made some expensive vintage watches too). This Ricardo should be a Classic with its superb 12/24 hour luminous cream face and Quartz (Japanese) movement. I prefer it to my Timex Expedition Camper. And, surprisingly, it costs less than £30. Excellent value for a wonderful watch.

I love the Lumibrite a) because I like to see the time, easily, light or dark. b) Day & Date! c) strap is irrelevant. I frequently buy straps I prefer. Stainless Steel.

Im new to watches and looking for a field watch and have a question. These are coming in at about $85 where I am. The Seiko SNK803 is available for $99. I like both, for relatively the same price am I getting more watch from the SNK?

I am wearing the Timex that you flashed on screen it is accurate and has a good backlight, I wish that it had a day complication. There are other watches that I would like to have but are not affordable for me.

I consider buying the green one after having the lumibright one second hand. But it seems like no one bought the green one, only stock images of that one! Maybe with a brown strap 😍

I have owned the Titanium version for 20+ years. I recently decided to buy a backup watch, in case my Titanium one got broken or simply wore out. In testing the LUMIBRITE watch I was very disappointed in its poor longevity. Its brilliance quickly faded once I'd left a well lit environment. Also, if the face got covered by a shirt sleeve, then it didn't illuminate at all. So, whereas the luminosity of the Titanium watch shouldn't even come close to the LUMIBRIGHT watch, I actually find the Titanium watch has better nighttime readability when I'm working in the dark for extended periods. One last point. On the LUMIBRIGHT watch, the days of the week can be set to display in English or in French. Both nice watches, but I find the Titanium watch's less cluttered face and extreme light weight make it the better of the two. Rick

Agree totally regarding the lume,I've had both watches and the lumibrite dial fades in no time whereas the hands on the titanium version are visible hours later.

I want the combination of the two! I want the titanium with the luma bright face. Anybody know if you can swap the movement and face from one to the other?

I would totally go for a titanium + lumibrite Lorus

I read somewhere that there is/was an Asian Seiko Alba model which is a mixture of these two models: titanium case + lumibrite dial. If it only was possible to add a solar charging system to it, there you'd have an unicorn. I dunno if it's mandatory to have black or dark dial to work solar, but as far as I know there are Citizen Eco-Drive watches with a beige dial.

Well I'm a year late on this. I bought the Lumibrite. The other week I got a tatty, now cleaned and restored, titanium model. My next consideration is swapping out the movements so that I can put the Lumibrite movement into the titanium case once I can figure out how to remove the stems. The steel Lumibrite is now on a steel Milanese bracelet, the titanium is on an early style James Bond strap. Without the strap and bracelet, total cost £59.99. they will last for donkey's years and will be more accurate than any Rolex. Thanks Ben. We're not daft are we? 👍

Can you shed any light on the day wheel? i bought one of these watches a couple of days ago but soon returned it as it had both English and a foreign language on the day wheel (which really confused me when trying to set it up) do you know anything about that? do you know anymore watches with the same full luminous dial lume of the stainless steel model? I only bought it for the full face lume on the dial and canvas strap however I do prefer the titanium case for its case but with the lume of the stainless steel model, the stainless has better one peice strap. Do you know which model has the day & date just above the 6 o’clock number ? Thanks

I have the Lorus RJ655AX9F (VJ33-X025 movement - steel case. I like to keep a spare battery and have searched the net and cannot find the battery type anywhere. Do you know which type of battery this watch takes. Good review - Cheers, Dave

Please review the lorus rs935dx9. Its $40USD and looks to be a field watch with a rotating bezel. Id be interested in checking it out as i am comparing it to the lorus titanium field watch.

...Can the lumibrite's strap be replaced with traditional two piece straps? silicone ones to be exact?
